The interesting thing about the draft is how some guys just seem to be available late in the process, and down the road people wonder how that could have happened. They may say this about Lucas Forsell some day, because the early buzz is that Jimmy’s made an absolute steal to snag him at 201st.
Yeah, I know that sounds weird. Forsell is young, younger than most of the draft eligibles this go-round, but was impressive enough to actually get called up to the SHL for a game as a 17 year old this past season.
I didn't want to expose my little secret so early, but Lucas Forsell is really good. I haven't seen him talked about anywhere, and he's hands down one of the most dynamic Swedes in the #2021NHLDraft pic.twitter.com/1Zblbyabtw— Alex Taxman (@AIexTaxman) November 9, 2020
With the addition of some guys that can shoot the puck, you need a skilled playmaker, and it sounds like this is what they could have in Forsell.

I like the Lucas Forsell pick in the 7th by VAN. Extremely young for this class yet saw a game in the SHL.— /Cam Robinson/ (@Hockey_Robinson) July 24, 2021
• Plays with good pace
• Quality hands
• Excellent passer
• Needs filling out but isn't afraid of the hard areas
• More quick than fast
This is a draft about the future, and while we cannot stress enough how disappointing it is that yet again, the Canucks did not manage to make a single deal to accumulate more picks, something that has to have been a priority, this does appear at first glance to be a fairly solid bunch of picks.
