And then, there were 10.
Okay, so the “shortlist” isn’t necessarily tight and condensed yet, but at least fans now have a sense of what the new AHL franchise in Abbotsford might be named.
The Canucks sent out an email today to those on the list for season tickets, asking them to choose their three favourites among 10 options.
Those options were:
- Aces
- Aeros
- Avengers
- Aviators
- Canucks
- Golden Eagles
- Pilots
- Millionaires
- Sockeyes
- Falcons
The list includes four names that tie into Abbotsford’s aviation history (Aces, Aeros, Aviators and Pilots), and two more that include birds (Golden Eagles, Falcons).
Then, there are two names that tie into the Canucks history (Canucks, Millionaires), and two other wildcards (Avengers, Sockeyes).
So, what’s your favourite among those listed?

The other question posed to shortlisted season ticket holders, was whether the franchise should be called Abbotsford, or Fraser Valley?

It’s been a little over a month since the Canucks first announced that they were relocating the Utica Comets to Abbotsford. Now, we’re one step closer to learning what the franchise will actually be called.
If you’re asking this writer...my vote is with the Abbotsford Aeros. Time will tell...
