GAME THREAD #48: Canucks vs Oilers

This is the end of the road for the Canucks playoff hopes. Time to get off the train and onto the tank, my friends.

I suppose if you’re one of those “It ain’t over til it’s over” types, then you must be enjoying the Leafs/Habs game at the moment, because the Leafs are currently dummying the Habs 4-0 after one period. And if somehow the Canucks do manage to win tonight, and that score holds up for the Leafs, then that is a stay of execution for the Canucks.

It’s only delaying the inevitable though, and let’s face it, the greater the odds the Canucks have of winning the draft lottery, the better. I mean, let’s not kid ourselves: they aren’t actually going to win it. Whether you just believe in fate, the hockey gods, or that the evil overlords that run this cursed league won’t allow it, it just will not be. And I think that’s probably a good thing.

You must be wondering why I would feel like that, right? Think about every time we’ve believed in this team. Every time they were poised for greatness. Ready to finally give these fans what they’ve been longing for. The carpet gets pulled out from under us. Being a Canucks fan is like living in a gif of Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown as he goes to kick it. It keeps happening over and over and it will never, ever be any different. There is a weird comfort in that, I guess.

Anyway, I hope no one gets injured and that McDavid doesn’t set any records or hit 100 points tonight.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We apologize for the game thread screw up on Tuesday. There was an issue with the scheduling of the post, and it glitched. We’re human. It wouldn’t have helped much anyways. But we’ll try our best to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
