If you’d been holding out hope that somehow, someway things just might turn to the positive, and the Canucks would begin an offensive that would lead them past Ottawa, Calgary and Montreal into 4th place, last night’s win by the Canadiens over Winnipeg must surely have brought you back to reality.
And the reality is with 12 games remaining, 12 points is a massive lead to surmount. It would be near impossible for a good team to make up that kind of ground. This Canucks team isn’t exactly one you should be using that term to describe.
I suppose that it’s probably a blessing we’ve been so conditioned to accept failure and disappointment as Canucks fans that this isn’t soul crushing for a lot of you. It’s definitely different, the way it all went down, but at the end of the day this was a fairly predictable result.
I’d like to say it’s going to get better, but obviously there needs to be wholesale changes off ice before that can happen. I have no confidence whatsoever in the management of this organization to be able to dig its way out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves.
So let’s just ride this out, savour some moral victories along the way, then forget this cursed season ever happened.
