It’s a Monday. Late afternoon road game in the eastern provinces. Remember when we last won one of those?
Me neither. Maybe we thought with the (almost) convincing win at home, the Nucks would roll into the nation’s capitol and reek havoc. Instead, the covid kids were reeked over the tire fire for 97 seconds in their own end in the 2nd. Not a big deal.
THE FUGLY DEAL
Until it turned out to be that Fedling shift where the last goal of the game was scored. The winning goal, by the wrong team. A goal that could have been prevented. Over and over.
The game thread weren’t screaming at screens or the Nucking D.
eesh
clear the fnucking puck… clown shoes defense. — Chicky
No one blamed Hotlz at the time either.
Ok
Holtby should have held the damn puck. That’s on him. — Chicky
Holtz took the hook for that, as he noted before about the covid concussion effects:
“That’s the mental error I’m talking about. “That’s one of those where at the start of the shift, it’s the right play. Right after I did that, I realized how tired we were. One of those things that just came back to bite us. It’s definitely a puck I should have covered.”
Oh well... down just a goal in the middle of the 2nd. That’s not so bad.
No, it’s worse.
It’s a Monday afternoon game on the road. Where a little dip in performance means a little loss, that feels like a big loss with huge implications. The Nucks push back was already pushed out of the rink in the late 1st.
Despite Holtz playing perfect the rest of the way, the next 30 minutes would do nothing but toy with our faint hopes.
On the PP, it was almost over the faint line.

There’s no coming back from a Monday dip. We know this. But, in case the Nucks don’t.
Wow that was a bad last ten minutes
it’s like the whole team forgot how to play in the D zone. — Twitchy
Still... we got an Ollie! That’s better than an Oscar.

Nice to know we managed to score on the 3rd string goalie of the last place team in the division. — Raddy
And there were other positive takeaways from this game.
Well the good news of this game
the natural fedler count is about zero. Of course the fedler count for non swedish defenseman is like 70, so… — Twitchy

There’s just the one. But it’s a good one - with the 2 Johns on the road.

Post-game availability expected to include Sutter, Juolevi & Holtby, followed by Coach Green.#Canucks | @TheProvince https://t.co/uMZc4fMtZl

At least this post-covid opening road game was a loss. If the Nucks had made this effort into a win, might have made us believe the make-believe stuff we like to make up at NM. Then we would have to take expectation adjustment lessons - on the road - to Kent’s place. Smacking into heavy metal at highway velocity can be a tough teacher.
Maybe we’ll stop by at the wall with the writing on it.
team can’t really afford to lose many more games before the writing is completely on the wall they really did need to win at least 3 of 4 from the Sens to have a legitimate chance — Raddy
Oh well... 2 out of 4 is still possible. Maybe.
Every shift matters. Even in no worries hockey? Yeah... no worries. There’s 4 more road games to go before we really need to worry about worrying ourselves about no worries hockey.
