RECAP #34: NUCKS WIN! (Really) Edge Habs & Refs 3-2 in OT

New, comments

A come from behind win?! Check. In regulation? Uh... maybe later.

It’s that time of the month. NM is having its Habs period. 6 of them to be exact. Some say that’s 5 too many. Others, like NHL officiating, claim 7 or 8 is better.

Sometimes hockey is a confusing game. We know this because sometimes often times some many Nucks players look a little confused.

At NM we can take confusion and transform it into snark and out-righteous indigestion. Especially these dinner-prep time games in the far east.

Doesn’t matter.

What matters is that we can start drinking early and often.

While we were busy imbuing empty calories, the cruel NHL timekeepers started the game. A game where the Nucks were the better team 5-on-5, Fedling excepted.

THE NOT SO GOOD SPECIAL TEAM

The refs are against us. The Nucks PK isn’t much more helpful.

Game thread is always ready to help.

f**king bs

horrid call, edler fedling, playing from behind. — Twitchy

The Habs get out to the early lead on their PP.

The endless Nucks scoring first in the first streak ends at 3.

The terrible reffing continued into OT. Only against the Nucks, of course. Myers is bleeding from a high stick late in the 3rd. No call. Blatant interference by Droin in OT. No call.

Like interpretive blind-folded dance, NHL refs are trained in the inconsistent arts of ice-tilting. To the advantage of the eastern NHL teams... coincidence?

However, the ‘extra’ penalties the Nucks received in this ‘game’ did help extend their league lead as the most penalised team. A coincidence?

NHL Game Center at game start displays their interest in Nucks players.

Nucks roster is depleted... but really???

THE COMEBACK KIDS

Despite being down after 1 and attempting the impossible - if this was last month - the Nucks decide not to rely on special teams.

Instead rely on 5-on-5 sneakiness. How sneaky?

Gaud knows...

With an apple from Rous who was freshly released from Faery farm duty.

But wait, there’s more. Pepper potted goal!

Nucks WIN! The 5-on-5 game.

The specialness the refs gave the Habs was too special for words. The final minute 6-on-4 for the tie didn’t feel that special in the game thread.

Altho... some special insights...

Once again

a combination of slacking on a lead and shitbag amateur hour reffing costs us points. I hope GMJB is on the phone to the league after this, but he’ll probably just take it day by fucking day and trade petey to the rangers. — Twitchy

You might be wondering if the cost of insurance (goals) is just too much for the Nucks at this point in the season. Maybe they could’ve got a quote from Lloyd’s.

Doesn’t matter. While the Nucks can’t buy insurance on the open jobbed market, they can give away loser points to division rivals on this trip, simply because they have locked in a 2 for 1 deal.

Montreal was 0 for 8 going into overtime. Now it’s 0 for 9 thanks to #9 with his 9th. The legend, JT Miller.

Woooo! Woooo!

The Nucks haven’t beaten the Habs in regulation this season.

Doesn’t matter. Nucks have beaten them - in the Habs own weak beer arena. Just 2 minutes longer than we wanted.

Also... have you noticed how many games Demmers has stolen for us this month?

GT SUMMARY

The least intelligible zoom presser so far? You decide. Dial-up still a thing in Montreal?

Good Nucks road game extends the win streak to 4 games! FOUR! Matching the season record.

Can they extend the streak? Beat the Price in regulation? Can we expect to see Hotlz? Or Demmers?

At least we don’t have to wait long to find out. That’s a good thing, right? Steely-eyed Green wasn’t saying who takes the net on the HNIC Hockey Cult on Ice Escapades.

My guess is Holtby. I’m a terrible guesser.

It’s been the best road trip this season so far. The bar wasn’t that high, but maybe our expectations have been raised a couple of microns. Maybe more. Maybe.
