RECAP #30: NUCKS Drop Game and Hope 5-1

Nucks End 3 Game Win Streak with Horrible Loss

NHL: Montreal Canadiens at Vancouver Canucks
When One of Your Best Players Fights a Plug... No Sparks For Nucks
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

There are good wins. Some say there are good losses.

Then there are the other kind of losses we witnessed in January. Those are horrible losses that we only need to see a couple times in a shortened season.

No, really.

We didn’t need to see that low effort style again. That’s soooo February.

After that gutsy comeback from behind win last game, you’d think the Nucks would be ready to match it. Even elevate their game to overwhelm a team playing way past their bedtimes.

Better not to think.

Not going to dwell on this game or put much energy into this recap. Even with only a few words and a snarky picture, would be more energy than the Nucks displayed. Especially in the first. FFS!

THE DEVASTATING FUGLY

The worst Nucks 1st period since that last worst 1st period last January.

The chances in the 1st were 8 for MTL and 1 VAN. One single chance. If it weren’t for Major Larcenist Demmers, period would have ended 5 or 6 or 7 nothing. Shots were 16-4 for the wakeful Habs. Ugh.

I would have thought that Montreal would be the team that’s asleep, given that the game starts at like midnight their regular time, but it feels like the Nucks are the team that’s asleep.

Wake up, team. Green, blow an air horn on the bench or something please? — Raddy

No one outside (or even in) the game thread heard that plea.

There was only one Nucks player that could be said to have played a good game; Demko. Despite getting lit up with 5 goals, Demmers kept the Nucks in the game for longer than the rest of the team deserved.

it’s like 10 minutes in and Demko already has 1st Star of the game locked up

because it looks like he’s playing 5v1 — Raddy

The 1 thing was sticking out too...

Nucks only getting

outshot 5 6 to 1 — jimmi

We could review all the Fedlers in the game, but the next game would start before we finished the review. Even if we highlighted just the mistake-prone plays, bone-headed errors and pathetic pass-attempts, we’re still in double double digits. Maybe triple triple. Whatever.

Only Demko (and Brock for one good shot) were ready and available to play.

The only way the Nucks can win in this tough Nuck luck division is for every player to never take a shift off. When many can’t even get a shift on, it’s only doom and lower SV% numbers for Demmer.

Instead of taking fewer penalties, the Nucks took more - 5 penalties. Not smart playing. Sure, the Nucks got a PP goal. Their only goal. The Habs also got a PP goal. And lots more.

The final tally had the scoring chances MTL 38 to only 11 Nucking chances.

Do we miss Pete yet? YES! And Motte! And the Sedins. And Nazzie. And Bure. And... oh yeah... our minds.

The 2 Johns help give us a little boost, but we needed a big big one.

At least Green gets a little red in the presser.

There are no more words to explain how this late night, no energy game was misplayed.
