GAME RECAP #9: NUCKS WIN! ANOTHER HOME LOSS - Get PP’d 2-1 By Oil

Vancouver Canucks - Hottest Last 5 Seconds Team In The Rink

NHL: Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks
Demmer Stones McD All Night - Pretty Much
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

At least we didn’t get shutout. So that’s pretty good.

It’s the 3rd home loss in a row. That’s not too good. And feels worse. Sure, up against the McD show it’s not like we could wish for a loser point at least. That’s a season opening game wishlist item.

Nucks played better than last game, but they were facing a much much better team. Dammit.

THE GOODish

Hey... at least they kept McD/DrySaddle off the sheet 5-on-5. That’s a full strength goodie that you can take to the Bank of Almost.

Thanks to Demmmers! McD had 9 shots on Demko and all were rejected. The official gamethread count was 7 Demmers. But we know it was over 10.

Nucks Win! The +/- battle. By employing a strategy of only giving up power play goals, casual fans will look at the valuable +/- column in the newspaper the following day and think we were successful. — Raddy

Winning while losing is what makes the Canucks great!

Brock got a goal! In the last seconds of the game. Doubles his goal output for the season. Exciting!

The Nucks out-hit the Oil. So that’s good. And gave away more fresh ROG turnovers to the visitors. That was... uh... generous.

THE STRAITS OF FUGLY

Scoring chances in the 1st: Milsie had one short-handed where Bailey looked great - as did the PK - until the last second. Still... OEL’s slap pass to Brock was close to a scoring chance.

If only 2 minute penalties were 1:55 or so, adjusted to league PK standings. Which would be 24 seconds for the current PK. Just to be safe.

The first was not great. The 2nd was better.

This is probably the best period the canucks have played at home this season. Which is kinda sad, actually, but still... — Twitchy

Nucks had a bit more urgency in the 2nd. Ok a lot more and some good chances... that well..

Leading the game in “What an opportunity!!”’s — Raddy

Bo whiffed on all his chances. Timing issues with the lotto line kept them out of the potting luck. Breakouts were... uh...

This dumping the puck into the oilers zone for one shot with no puck support then back to the d-zone is probably not the best strategy for winning a game. — Twitchy

7th time trailing after the 1st period. 80th time trailing after 2. In only 9 games!

At home your Nucks had gone 119 minutes without a goal. There’s been 2 Nucking goals scored in the last 2 games - that didn’t go in the last 3 mins.

In the ROG... the homer crowd was running out of patience and if it wasn’t for Brock’s last second Brocket, could have been a BooOut for the Nucks.

Baby steps better game this time out. Game thread wasn’t worried at all.

At least that was a better game... but I’m one poorly played game away from joining westy in the fire green group. — Twitchy

GOING GREEN

Trav has coached 298 NHL games. His record reads like a Westy bar pickup line: 128 Wins and 170 Losses. Some claim only 2-20 coaches in league history have a worse winning percentage than Greener. His Nucking record is worse than Willy or Torts. 0.4295% winning percentage. Sounds weirdly familiar somehow.

Seems like Green doesn’t have the roster to coach like he wants. He likes the heavy game. His roster is more about the possession game. Or could be. If that passing thing wasn’t such an elusive goal to scoring goals.

As much as we like to can dump on coaching staff, other than Clark, most players don’t seem hungry to win - or motivated to play hard in the dirty areas.

Is this an organizational failure? A system failure? Failure to communicate? Failure to execute? Dismal failure of the top line?

Seems like All of the Above. Something must be done. And it will. Soon. By mid-season or so. When it’s too late to keep their well-advertised Playoffs or Bust almost-playoffs declaration.

We Nucking fans have been patient with the great JB rebuild - so great that some say it’s on course to be a 50 year rebuild. That’s so... so majestic.

No 2 Johns - at least we can put the loss on HNIC.

We know how we feel about the game... Bo tho?

Over in the Green Room, it’s the media-game face we used to enjoy - 200 games ago.

We didn’t expect the Nucks to win this game. But we had a secret wish for a tie and maybe a lighting failure in the ROG at the appropriate moment.

The big Nucking pushback started in the last few minutes of the 3rd. If only there was a way to make that into a winning tactic.

maybe they should just make the clock manager to always set the clock to 2 minutes left in the game, and then the Nucks will try hard — Raddy

The New Looking Nucks have been trying to forge a team identity. This is it.

YES! Last minute hockey is the New Nucks Identity — jimmi

And maybe they’ll discount season tickets by 98%! Winnning!!!

Until that happens, we can only hope the Nucks can out-skate and out-score opponents at the beginning. Of the 3rd. Or the 1st. That’d be good.

Happy Aurora Borealis gazing! No puck gazing tho. We can get that at home.
