Last game I predicted that this game would be a game for the ages. With a loss. Just a couple days.
But this was a win for the ages! Or at least a couple weeks.
The crowd was rocking in the Climate Change Arena. Getting their $600+USD a ticket money’s worth. At least for the 2nd period.
Wow, that’s a lot of money to watch Joonas Donskai. — Westy
The biggest story of the game, of the win is the lightening reflexes of Demmer’s new shiny pads. Definitely keepers. As is Demko. Saved the game and NM from another 2 week drinking binge. Only a 2 day cellie binge. That’s not so bad.
THE GREAT!
Are you thinking about the greatest signing of the offseason? Me too!
Thinking Ian Clark? Me too. And the Demko signing.
The Clark-powered Demmers is the best coach/goalie team we’ve had since what’shisname and what’shisname.
When the Nucks went into hibernation in the 2nd, Demko woke them up. Repeatedly. And often. Like an oven timer.
With so many d-zone turnovers, felt like the Nucks D&F group were trying to feed the home crowd, since few could afford to eat there - while letting Demko eat pucks repeatedly. And too often.

Capt’n Bo kraks the Krakheads, who like to block a thousand shots a period. Can’t block them all. Nucks 1st shot of the period counts where it counts.

We asked for a PP goal in the 3rd. Or at least I did.
And Bo answered our my plea.

Conor ‘Popeye’ Garland with the GWG! The biggest 5’8” player the Nucks have ever had.

Huggie played a great and tough game. Don’t believe me?
I was just thinking that this is the best overall game we’ve seen from Hughes in a while... He’s even been pretty good in the D zone. — Twitchy
THE NOT GREAT
Pete. Whatever that wrist surgeon did in the offseason appears to have a left a pressure bandage in Pete’s head. He has struggled in these starter games so far. And worse, in this game he was not good in his own end. His other own end. He’s too talented to make us worry, but this isn’t a good trend. And nothing bothers the trendy boffins from the NM Stats of the Trendy, than an ungood trend.
The top line isn’t clicking like we recall either. The season before last season. Last season which do not want to recall. The penultimate last season. That was a very clicky season.
Lammikko takes a bad penalty at the worst possible time at the end of the 1st. PK killed the penalty - but couldn’t kill off the period. And that changed the momentum, the screaming hot pandemonium, in a building where a little bottle of Canadian water costs $9USD.
Poolman. Takes his spontaneous dentistry impulses out on Huggie. Which required some proper dental repairs - but did boost Quinn’s gamethread cred.
Also his toughness is at the top of the NHL charts too. Got blood on the ice not once but twice. — Raddy
THE FRICKIN’ FRUGLIES
Since the ice was tilted like a sad squid orca slipping down a snowy bank into a puddle of spilt $9 a bottle ice water after the last seconds of the 1st, the Nucks went into their usual defensive indefensible posture for all most of the 2nd.
Think the Canucks will make a pass to their own team at all this period? Or will they all go to a Kraken? — Twitchy
Sixteen minutes and two seconds between Nucking shots on goal. Got outshot by a group of mercenary squids 15-0 in the 1st half and a bit in the 2nd. At least the Nucks 1st shot of the 2nd was a Bo goal, so we can play quality over quantity until Demmers tires of numbers greater than .925.
The game is tied at the end of the 2nd. If any other goalie was backstopping the Nucks, would have been 4-1 Krakies.
The Nucks don’t win the game early in the 3rd. Instead it looks like a game lead stinker from Gio that reeks out the game thread.
Geez I hate Giordano. Still stinks like a flame. — Twitchy
But thrilled the crowd who felt $600USD (avg. ticket cost) was well spent in 2 periods and a bit.
3rd period, time to not play defense — Raddy
It was a high event hockey game. Which isn’t totally fugly in a game for the ages. A historic game - which we won. Won with a gargantuan Garland GWG. That’s not bad at all.

Over in the Green Room in the Emerald city (the emerald parts not yet paved over), the mood is of 2 games. The last mood was better.

The BEST comeback game of the season from the Comeback Kids? Definitely.
The horrible road trip didn’t end as horribly as I said some predicted. That’s pretty good. We can thank Demmers and the hockey gawds of symmetry. The road trip finished with a 3-2-1 record - which is 0.083 better than 500. That’s not bad.
The Nucks can go home - have a couple dozen defensive zone practices - top line can rack up a couple dozen offensive zone scoring practices and be ready for Tuesday’s must-win home opener.
We fans can move our TVs inside off the porch, out of the rain and watch this home opener in the comfort of our home.
Enjoy the smugface until Monday - the 2 newbie teams are in the basement of the division - let’s keep them there.
