Do you love workday afternoon road games in the eastern provinces early in the season? Me neither. NM gamethreads love them.
Early games!!! — Westy
But then they have to endure Nucking 1st period on the road.
Poolman with his first as a Canuck! Too bad it’s into the wrong net, but still... — Twitchy
But on the PVR game one can avoid this...
Holy fuck the Canucks look like shit early. — Westy
Afternoon naps or afternoon 1st periods on the road - you decide.
did the Nucks not get enough sleep or something? In game is not the time to nap. — raddy
Fortunately for us, the NHL still requires 3 periods for a regular season game. Not quite as fortunate they require all 20 minutes in the last period. 17 would be better.
Oh well... our New Look Nucks have a much better start than expected - remember lower expectations means job security for JB/TG. That they’ve claimed 3 out of 4 points so soon will make tomorrow’s loss to the Half-Wings not sting as much. See - my expectations are lower than the bars Westy took me too last year on his renowned virtual rum tour.
Anyways, despite the shaky start - that Demmers made much less shaky, the Nucks found their road legs during dinner and delivered a satisfying triple topping desert in the 2nd.
THE GOOD
Pod-GOAL-zin gets his 1st NHL goalzin!

How cool is that? In only his 1st 2nd NHL game pots one on a great shot.
Man I could get used to that coming down off the wing for a few years if he can wire it like that. — raddy
Good to know that the Nucks Strategic Command scans NM for strategic hints. We hinted that Podz on the 1st line would be proof Podz-itive of our lucky expert suggestions.
Nucks get their 1st lead of the season. On the PP!!! From Pete. Lucky or sneaky? As they say you make your own sneaky luck.

It was Petey...there is a zero chance that he didn’t totally plan that...off the player, off the wall off the other player and in. It’s a set play! — Twitchy
Keeping Chiasson on the 1st PP unit pays dividends. Just like we said it would. Pretty sure we said that.
THE BAD
Huggie getting swamped, puck-stripped or Qedling isn’t a good look. And copey can’t wait to update the NM Book of Fedling Terms.
Twitchy, I would you to speed up your required # of years before we can officially call them Qedlers, coz that 3 in two games for him already.... — copey
To be fair, Quinn is more a G-man than D-man. A gambler who toys with our nerves while putting up points. And we like it. So it’s not all bad.
The Comeback Kids letting the Flyers come back. Sure... it was fun for fans. In Philly. Yes, living in Philly and attending Broadstreet home games is punishing enough. So.. as an act of unhelpful false hope, the Nucks let the fans enjoy a few moments of joy, before taking it away in OT SO.
No need for us to worry. Ok... we like to worry and it’s our Nucking fan obligation to worry about the Nucks - who too often are unable to put games away so we can go eat our cold TV dinners in the dank basement of the NM lounge.
WHAT WE LEARNED
Two goal lead going into the 3rd on the road is safest lead in hockey. Until the 3rd is almost over.
Watching momentum shifts are fun. Not as much fun as the Nucks closing out a game in reg.
It’s possible that not all 6 games on a brutal road trip to start the season will be losses.
The Nucks have a 50/50 record in shootouts this season. And the only team to play in all the shootouts (thus far).
The Nucks lead the Pacific Division (at the time of writing this smug factoid).

How did they team feel about this WIN that was never in doubt.
Not Miffling words.
"First win with all the new faces, we have to keep the work boots on and try and string a few together."

All’s well that ends in a win. Even if it takes 3 periods and 2 sessions of extra tension.
Before we get all the decorations ready for the parade, we have to end our easy Saturday reno nightmares early and skip the dishes and probably dinner. Nucks are rolling into MotorCity for another afternoon of Nucking hockey. Enjoy the ride.
