I know you’re probably as disappointed as me. This was a scheduled Nucks loss. We had cracked open the bottle of ‘14 Stoic der Sinn Rotschild. And swallowed the stinky syrup early (and often).
We were ready to watch the 11th straight Nucks loss to the Jets. It was a gimme. We don’t care. Ok... we care... a little.
In the game preview, Kent gave us the usual NM Jets game pep-talk.
Without mincing words...the Jets have completely owned the Canucks’ asses over the past few seasons.
Over the Canucks last 15 games against Winnipeg, they are 1-14.
Yep, nary a loser point in any of those losses.
Just for shits, the last time the Canucks beat the Jets, Jannik Hansen had two goals including the eventual game-winner, in a 4-1 win back on December 20th, 2016.
Since then, the Canucks have lost 10 straight to Winnipeg.
Haven’t won in Winterpeg since 2014. That’s a long time ago - that feels like yesterday - those Torts scars are deep.
Doesn’t matter. What matters is...
F O U R Game NUCKS W I N Streak!!!
Canucks defeat Hellerbuck for the very first time!
Helly has never lost to the Canucks... now he’s never won against them. This season. A trend, perhaps? Oh how sweet that would be.
THE GOOD:
I am at a loss to sum it up better than the astute wordplayers from the game thread. And if you haven’t read it, you won’t believe your eyes. Westy almost said something nice about Eddie. Just kidding.
Best game thread of the season? Sure...
Wow, what a game!
Superbly played
Great puck possession
Demko nearly unbeatable
Play like this every game and Montreal will have to watch out. — radivel
- Nucks did not give up a single high danger scoring chance in the 3rd.
In fact they had more high danger chances while locking up the lead in Westy chastity rum belt style. Out shot the Jets 16-6 in the 3rd. To follow up with out shooting them 15-5 in the 2nd.
- Professional, disciplined game. Myers and Eddie did NOT visit the summer cabin / stinky box in the entire game. Not even to reminisce during intermissions.
- PK was perfect. Just the one, because the Nucks were so... disciplined. Usually when the term disciplined is used at NM it’s in a reference to NHL DoPS.
- Demko is playing the penultimate shut out style like he likes it.
- Brock is a Brockstar. Leads the league in goals with 8 - more goals than McWhatzHisName.

Beating Hellsbucking on the first goal of the game was sweet.

Putting away a pair in a 4-1 win over the Jets tonight, Brock Boeser is the 1st @Canucks player to record 8 goals through the team's first 11 games of a season since Daniel Sedin in 2010-11. The last time someone had more with VAN by that criteria? 1995-96 (Alexander Mogilny- 9) pic.twitter.com/GLe7hSBgWQ

- Huggie leads all NHL D in points with 11. If my math is right... he’s a point a game guy. As if we didn’t know that.
- Canucks are #1 in the league in... uh-huh scoring, with 39.
More cool stats (stolen) from the game thread - adjusted for inflation.
Canucks have scored 40 goals in 11 games now
About 3.7 per game. — radivel
THE BAD:
- Still too many turnovers. 7 Orca fluffs. Or maybe just the right number. Jets served 15 savoury ice pucks. Yummy.
- Power Play didn’t. 0 for 2. Didn’t matter. And it wasn’t for trying. Hellebuyck is a pretty good goalie. Never lost a game to the Nucks. Until now.
- Pete’s shattering stick. On the PP. We must find him another supplier other than Fast Eddie’s Shattering Discount Deals on pre-cracked Flylite specials.
- Last minute in the 2nd periods not great. But doesn’t matter. This time.
THE LOVELY:
Tonight, they looked like the team in the bubble last year.
Hard to play against. Check.
Relentless fore-checking. Check.
Plenty of goal scoring. Check.
Demko looked almost un-beatable. Check.
Defese shaky, but almost decent. Check.
Totally the bubble team. — Atty
Now with MOAR Skill! Hoggie plays puck pong with Hellerbucket and wins.
Hoggie is making a steamer legend in his own time. Relentless on the puck. #1 in the league for rookie EVGs. That’s like an EKG, but way better.

Zack Attack-A-Tip. Gets his 1st goal of the season started by a lovely dangle by Miller. Nifty little pass by Pete to start the O-zone play.

I can’t sum up this game any better than others. I know... what am I doing here? I’m not a recapper, I’m NM’s Official(ish) Observation Collector and Reposter.
These two periods they outshot them 31-11. They didn’t take any bad penalties, and, most importantly, they didn’t take their foot off the pedal. They played full out those two periods, limited chances against (one dreadful shorthanded breakaway aside), and didn’t get pushed around either. They beat them cleanly and thoroughly through greater effort. And just a touch of luck, like the broken stick ENG and the bouncer off the post.
Just a commanding performance there for two periods. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Nucks look that good and road-game disciplined against a team that had owned them. It’s not the 3-goal win here, it was the effort put into it. — Copey
The Nucks played like the team we (almost) knew they could be. And now NM is playing like the team, but with word theft and stuff. Thanks team!
The only sad part of this historic win over the Jets is it wasn’t called by the 2 Johns, because the HNIC rules of Saturday.

All goal scorers and goal-stoppers talk to the zoom media mavens. And Green beams like that endless loss streak to the Jets never happened.

Now what? The scheduled loss is spoilt with the best Nucks game of the season.
In case you may have missed it...
F O U R Game NUCKS W I N Streak!!!
The 2021 Canucks are above 500! 3rd in the division!
1 down and only 5 to go. If this Nucks team is the one that plays in the Hab-itat on Monday could be an exciting week. If it’s the other non-team that last played Montreal... nah... that’s not happening.
