RECAP #9: NUCKS WIN 2 Periods and Game! Drop Sens 5-1

Better to win the last 2 periods than not.

If there’s one thing Nucks fans love more than anything... it’s drama.

We expected the Nucks to come out where they left off last game. Those expectations were crushed dramatically in the first. We really enjoyed that.

Other than So Hot Motte and Demko, especially Demko, the first period could have been a dramatic collapsolypse that we wouldn’t have really enjoyed.

This was #HockeyTalks Night in the ROG. Is it a coincidence the Canucks organisation have a public presence on mental health issues? It’s only fair to fans.

Even better, Motte gets 2 goals in the game - and a Suttertrick in our hearts and minds.

The game thread was talking amongst themselves after the first. So was Green, probably talking red-faced with blue words. Or at least we hope he was.

THE GOOD:

Bubble Demmer is back! Stopped 87 of the 88 shots in the first.

Miller gets all the stats.

Miller wants to match Sutter from last game — Westy

3 points - 2 goals and an apple + 2 penalties. That’s an improvement. But, he’s still a grumpy guy who knows the line needs to be better.

Power Play Pete puts the wicked wrister just where we like it.

Didn’t let a terrible 1st period stop them from posting a much better 2nd and 3rd.

Huggie is collecting apples like Miller collects penalties.

THE BAD:

Out shot by the WORST team in the division 23-7 in the 1st period!

Clown shoes PK led to the Sens goal. Only after the Sens own fire drill offensive display. If the 1st period Nucks had been playing any other division rival, could have been 5 goals against.

Free turnovers. So many in the 1st. 9 in the game vs only 4 for the Sens. Way too much tire fire baking in the first.

Miller took 2 penalties. Jake took the most costly one.

Nucks are #1 in the league. In most games played. 10 games in 15 days. NHL scheduling is our frenemy.

Also...

We’re number 1!

In penalties.

So we’ve got that — Gwailoh

The first period was so dramatic the game thread was at a loss for (encouraging) words...

Demko: covers the puck and looks up to see who’s on for defense

realizes it’s the canucks so he holds for the whistle. — Twtitchy

Myers led all Canucks with 3 fresh leftover turnovers. Greedy.

THE LOVELY:

Hot Motte gets the crucial 1st goal of the game.

Pretty Pete Passing sets up winning goal for the lotto line.

Nucks returned the lopsided shot count in the 2nd. Out lopped the Sens 20-7.

REEL TIME:

Garret is back stopping Hughson in the highlights.

Pete, Motte, Demko, Miller and Green engage the questioning horde. (FF the gap between players and Green - reference would have been funnier a couple games ago)

Playing 45 minute games in a 60 minute league isn’t a recipe for certain success. But can be exciting. And more importantly, dramatic.

And guess what... the drama ramps up to 500 full moon fever tomorrow night. These 3 games against the worst team in the division, are all must-win games.

While they’ve won 2 games pulling away, this next game is crucial. Not just to get up to level on the win/loss teeter-totter.

It’s crucial for the Nucks to take a 3 game win streak on the road to balance the 5-6 game L-streak they will will have to gut out.

While we all hope the preseason is over for the lotto line and Miller and Myers leave the easy bake oven at home, we’re still waiting for the Nucks to prove they can compete with any team in the league division for the full sixty. Could happen. If not in this universe, then the next one - my fav alternate universe where the Nucks have 3 Cups in the closet before turning 50.

We might be looking past the next game to Saturday’s tilt in Winterpeg - simply because we want to see how the Nucks squeeze Manitoba’s 14 day quarantine into 48 hours - the Nucks can’t focus on that certain loss.

The almost 500 Canucks need to climb Mt. Middle of the Pack before taking the step off the standings cliff until the Nucks get back home to light up the ROG with Marky McSofties.

Not complaining about the schedule. Just miffed that the NHL couldn’t have moved the Red Wings or Yotes to Scarborough or Saskatoon for a few months. Is that asking so much?

Speaking of asking... Last recap, I asked the lotto line to take out their frustrations on the scorekeeper. That wasn’t asking for much. Once they got the NM rum-printed memo in the 1st intermission.

Great win? Sure. Super-duper win over the last place team in the division. Let’s go get another one!
