It’s not the start to the season that Elias Pettersson envisioned.
Through four games, Pettersson has just one assist. Now, he’s been fined by the NHL for slashing Sean Monahan.
Pettersson was penalized on the play, and Calgary ended up scoring on the ensuing power play.
After the game, the young Swede admitted to being frustrated with the penalties he took against the Flames.
“It’s very frustrating right now. The 1st was good, then I don’t know what happened. I took two dumb penalties and that’s not acceptable.” - Pettersson breaks down Vancouver’s 5-2 loss in Calgary. pic.twitter.com/tXe7BGm6Gy— Vancouver #Canucks (@Canucks) January 19, 2021
Two years ago, Pettersson busted into the league as a rookie with five points in two games, which turned into 10 goals in his first 10 games.
However last season, the 22-year-old had a “slow” start with a goal and an assist through four games. He did break things open with a three-point night against the Detroit Red Wings in Game Five of the regular season.
Here’s hoping that Pettersson puts his first NHL fine behind him, and busts out of his early-season slump against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.
