GAME 2 FAKE SERIES RECAP: NUCKS WIN!!! Tame the Wild 4-3

New, comments

Would have been 4-1, but the annoying 60 min game rules

Westy called it a MUST-WIN game. Nucks do read NM after all. Or maybe even they can figure stuff out for themselves. Nah... they need NM (rum) strategy coaching.

The line up was changed up. Just as NM pundits and every other punderer in NucksNation were calling screaming for.

Toffoli was deemed unfit to play. As was Hoby Baker... oh... Gaud.

So that meant the guy everyone was clamouring for is in the game:

Loui. Oh and Jake gets to play too.

Let’s get this redemption party going!

1st Period

And it goes. Really quick.

Pearson, the same guy who took no shots, but 2 penalties last game, puts his 1st shot in the net. 24 seconds in!

Because I was unfairly deprived of posting Nucks goals last recap, going to post this again.

As you recall from my previous (sad) recap, my sage advise to the Nucks was to get the first goal of the game. Obviously Pearson reads NM and takes direction well.

And it was a very good thing. Not just because Westy was impressed.

That’s a start - Westy

It was because it seemed that the refs in this game had a cursory familiarity with the rules. And were calling penalties. Penalised the Nucks right after their near game-winning goal.

The Wild’s formidable PP, that won the previous game, was stiffed. Not once, but twice in near succession.

And then the weirdest thing happened in the history of NHL Covid-Bubble Hockey. The refs called a roughing penalty on Goonway for gooning on Pete.

The Nucks PP isn’t ready. Neither is the game thread.

A powerplay?

why?

How could they? - Westy

The Nucks PP helped gain momentum. For the opposing PK team.

But not enough gaining... so the refs call 2 more on the Wild. The Nucks don’t score. But the... yeah... the Wild PK score on the 2nd one.

trash

LEARN HOW TO MAKE A FUCKING PASS. Jeez. Sportsnet giving minny all the credit but the canucks missed like every pass in both those pps. - Twitchy

It’s a tie game. Didn’t need to be. But that Nucks PP needs some tune-up time. And the 2nd unit needs to never leave the safety of the bench.

At least it’s a tie.

A tie game after the first

seems disappointing.

I should just be happy they scored a goal - Westy

And even better the Nucks are keying on Fiala and he dinna like it.

Fiala getting the Petersen treatment from Brock - jisammi.cynic

The Nucks have the lead... the tie and have outshot their soon to be losing opponents 10-9.

2nd Period

We’re back to evens to start the this even period.

Of course, because it’s evens, the refs call a soft penalty on Stetch. And the Nucks 100% PK continues its defence of the 100% stat.

Also the bench is shorter. Ferlie doesn’t return after the 1st. Only played 2:36 of the first anyhow. Pretty sure, Trav will give us the details post game - which means we’ll never know

And then Dadda goes elite pro hockey sniper.

It’s Miller time!

Because it’s my night to replay the replays...

Wow! Feels like we’ve just won the 649! Oh... wait... we did. They’re back. And taking shots.

And goals.

Pete and Brock scoring together is a beautiful thing. Want to see it again? Me too.

Brock suckered Suter to the wrong side of the net at the right time.

The game thread is getting sucked into the game too.

YEAAAAHHHHH BROCKY! - Twitchy

And it’s official...

Yes!!!!

Keep Brock!!! - Westy

Or not.

Jim’s a thinker… sell high - Canta

Doesn’t matter. Until it does. And the only thing that matters right now is the 2 goal lead.

The period is tied on the shot clock, but not on the scoreboard. Nucks lead 3-1.

And Jake is making plays to save the 2nd unit from more infamy than we want.

Jake with the first defensive play of his career

Nicely done - Canta

He rushed back to break up a break away while on the PP. His speed can work in 2 directions. Good to know.

And so far the Nucks haven’t given up a PP goal. I mean when they’re on the PK. Have killed 5 so far and only given up that shortie in the first.

Also... I miss Shortie on SN. The 2 Johns would call these games far better than the 2nd stringers that HNIC has deployed.

3rd Period

Leading by 2 to start the 3rd is pretty good. And it gets even better.

The refs, still somehow using the rulebook or something, call back-2-back penalties. Pete draws both calls. I’m not making this up!

The first Nucks PP ends without getting scored on.

The 2nd one tho... does something not seen. Until now.

The Nucks 1st unit scores a PP goal!!!

From a wicked Huggy shot and a nifty Bo tip.

Let’s savour that PP goal all over again.

That’s more like it. And now the Nucks have the insurmountable 3 goal lead.

And keep it that way. Because these kids know... to win hockey games you have to play the full 58 minutes.

Those last 2 minutes of 5-on-6 hockey... well... something to work on.

Quick lesson on why you can’t ease the coverage on Fiala.

Meanwhile... during the period Jake solidified his ice time by putting a slapper on net that deflected and hit Roos on the nogan. There was blood and the Nucks finished the game with 10 forwards.

And speaking of rough stuff, Pete wasn’t playing Sedin style hockey. He was pushing back when he got mugged. Along the boards, Hartman put his stick in Pete’s face, Pete gave him a shove back and Hartman fell face first on the ice. There was blood. And the game thread... well...

Petey took down Hartman - Westy

Twitch was upset. Not.

seriously is anyone sad

that a dirty prick like hartman goes down? - Twitchy

Anyhow, there was lots of bad blood to go round. This series is the meanest one of the made-for-TV Bubble Hockey.

This game is the game the Nucks needed. What the game thread needed. Probably what the world needed.

Of course, what the world needs is getting the programming misfits at Sportynet to bring the 2 Johns back. If not for the most important market in the universe, at least for Sportynet Pacific, the least important market in the universe.

Until then it’s behind-the-play boys at HNIC.

The surprise of the night? Loui. He was solid, even if his stick wasn’t. Played on Bo’s line and the PK. Had 20 minutes of ice time. Did miss out on the EN and that was a downer for the game thread and all the fans in the building.

I know, you’ll want to know who won the big prize...

the special Ed award tonight - sammi.cynic

JT Miller was the 1st star and Bo was the 2nd. The 3rd star of the game needs to be covered the full 60 next game.

With a win under their bubble, the boys can take the outside heat. At a safe zoom distance.

Green was happy. Probably happy to keep his job for another couple games. The top 6 were the top 6. Just like we planned. With a few roster moves.

We won’t know the status of Ferlie and Roos are until the Nucks tell us. They tell us nothing. It’s a bubble, not just for pandemic reasons. Ok it is... Sports media scrutiny in Vancouver is like a pandemic, but meaner.

Enjoy your free hump day. And take Thursday morning off. And lunch too.
