Not a bad time to earn their first regulation win against the Vegans

It’s a different day with a different game in a different city. Oh well... we’ll take 2 out of 3.

Just like the Nucks would be happy to win 2 out of 3 periods.

Especially considering they didn’t win any periods last game. A game we’ve collectively forgotten.

So... with the first game of the freshly re-started Round 2 about to begin, what could the Nucks do to make this game something to remember.

I don’t know... maybe some lineup changes and well... just play better.

Toff is back. And with Petey and Pearson! Oh... interesting.

But with Toffee in, who’s coming out?

Little Things out tonight — Twitchy

Really? This could be really good for us.

But how good?

Let’s find out.

1st Period

Toffoli was so good in his first game back from faeryville, you’ll believe I’m making it up. But I’m not.

On Toff’s 1st shift of the game, he scores the 1st goal of the game! On a great pass from Pete.

WOOOOO TOFFFFFF!

Welcome back! — Twitchy

Welcome to breaking the desert goal drought just a minute thirty-nine in.

Is this a sign? Well... it’s a sign that the underdogs are biting fast. And hard.

The period continues and the Nucks are taking control of the game. How much control?

Well... they get the first PP of the game.

And even better, the 1st PP goal of the game!

It’s a Capt’n Bo PP goal! With a sweet setup by Pete and Toff.

Now that’s a PP — Westy

It’s a 2-nothing Nucks lead! Against the Stolen Nights!

It’s not just a miracle, it’s better.

The Nucks are so winning this period.

How do I know this? Because I have super duper hindsight.

There was a little last minute pedal release... which released the game thread to couch coach as only it can.

Hey Canucks

let’s play 20 full minutes — Westy

Well they did their regular

19 minutes followed by a minute of terror for the fans. — Twitchy

See. The Nucks are always thinking of their fans.

the last minute always

seems like they are killing a penalty, when it’s actually 5 on 5 — Westy

Can you ever practice the PK enough?

Doesn’t matter.

What matters is the Nucks have outplayed Lost Wages, 19 of 20 minutes. Out shot them 8-6. And most importantly, out scored them 2-0.

Canucks Win!

The first period. — radivel

Yes, and it’s the best kind of win, because... it creates a win after the last period.

Just have to get through the next period - a period that Wegas specialises in making it tough to watch. For us.

2nd Period

And just 18 seconds in, the Strip Knights get a PP. And not one of those terrifying 5-on-5 power plays they ended the first with.

How scary is their real power play?

The Vegas PP moves the puck so fast

the camera man is making me sick trying to keep up — Westy

And even better, the Nucks PK have made the Knightly PP sick.

The Nucks, or at least Marky are keeping the pucks out of the net.

Pretty much.

Vegas lands one of those aerials in the Nucks zone and the cameraman frustrating Tuch pops a shot past Marky.

Ugh. A Vegas desert storm ahead?

Game thread isn’t worried.

Wow

That was a shit goal. Huggy bear got caught puck watching. — Twitchy

Vancouver did the same thing against St Louis

Vegas has the speed for that move — Westy

Better than that. Marky isn’t worried. He’s in the no-moar-goals zone. We like it when he goes into that zone.

Because... there’s an onslaught coming from Vegas shooting-everything-from-everywhere. How much shooting?

A lot. Like crazy numbers. The shot attempts were 50 Knights vs 11 Nucks attempts.

But, the game thread is not phased.

Geez

Clear the puck ffs. And the 1 and done chances in the O-zone are not gonna lead to drinking champagne from the chalice, boys. — Twitchy

The Swollen Nights are wasting their vital energy on shooting with nothing to show for it.

But the Nucks, with 5x fewer shot attempts, are playing the quality game. When they get the chance to venture outside their own blueline.

And they do in the last couple minutes of the period.

It’s an O-zone faceoff - a faceoff the Nucks win - if only they awarded the Cup for the faceoff champs, we’d already have won. From the winning faceoff, from Toffoli, a great play down the boards by Eddie, to the Alien abducting the puck right in front of the net.

And... it’s a Sneaky Pete goal!

Let’s slow it down so mere humans can see it.

The Petey Weapon

has it’s target set and is firing on all cylinders tonight.

Just watching him, just wow. He’s amazing. — radivel

Can Pete score pretty dekey goals in the playoffs? Yes!

One thing I really noticed about petey tonight

No matter who he’s on a line with, he’s just as dangerous. It doesn’t matter if it’s his regular line mates or a broken shift change, he still makes the perfect pass and ends up where he needs to be to receive their passes. Who needs chemistry when you’re the alien? — Twitchy

The commanding 2 goal lead is restored and the Knighties are losing their shirts. Or tempers. Whatever.

Doesn’t matter. What matters is that Vegas pressurised the Nucks with 22 shots on Marky in the period and scored one goal with 50 shot attempts. The thrifty Nucks put 7 shots on net and scored one goal.

And lead 3-1 after 2. Can the underdogs keep their teeth on the Vegas golden collar? Yes, they can!

Foolish Knights

Our power doubles every time a Tyler returns from IR.

Just wait for Episode 3: Revenge of the Myers. — Canuck89

3rd Period

With the 2 goal lead, the safest lead in hockey, the Nucks aren’t playing for the AV tie. No, they’re playing to win.

Really? Yes. And really quick.

So quick, we were still pondering the HNIC hockey panellists’ comments. Ok, we weren’t.

But still... barely get the TV off mute and the Nucks strike. Especially enjoyable as HNIC is bigging-up the Vegas comeback.

The poor Nightlies were caught blowing the zone, before uh... clearing the puck out of the zone. We know what that feels like.

It’s another Capt’n Bo Goal! From a no-look Brock pass.

Man I much prefer the start of periods rather than the end of them — radivel

It’s 4-1 Nucks! Leading the Sullen Knights. In the 3rd.

It’s an insurmountable lead. But, still the league wants the game to run full length.

Doesn’t matter. Because, the Nucks won the 1st period, tied the 2nd and now will win the the 3rd.

And they’re not taking any crap from the high speed hitters from the strip.

Miller had an assist and scored a player’s player goal.

We should get a goal there

it’s hard to shoot a 200 lb man in full body armour past the goalie… — Twitchy

Still the Vegans want to throw their weight around. But... as they say timing is everything... in comedy checking.

Yeah... Eddie took a bad penalty. And a good penalty. And yeah, Low Wages scored 6-on-4, but it’s garbage time in the ROP.

And EN time. Pearson gets the Louie.

The game ends with the underdogs snarling back to win 5-2.

No sweep for the self-proclaimed elite.

Nope. The Golden Nighties might yet win this series. But they will have to earn it, not chirp it.

Game thread is thrilled with the Nucks 1st regulation win over the $500M shortcut-to-success team.

Thank god that’s over — Westy

Nucks mood is pretty good too.

Canucks Win!

The third period and the game too! — radivel

The final shot count is 40-27 for the homely team. Despite the lopsided shot count, the teams were even on high danger chances at 9 each.

The Nucks set a playoff record of 40 blocked shots on 93 attempts.

Now, that’s raising the compete level.

Want to watch the highlights? Yeah, me too.

Want to hear the post-game presser too?

That was a great pushback statement game from the Nucks. The Vagaries may still be a better team. On paper and on ice.

Yet Greener and his coaches have the kids playing like seasoned vets. And the seasoned vets playing like motivated vets. The Nucks came back against the former champs. And proved they can come back against any of the possible future ones.

It was a wonderful game and 3 more wonderful Nucks games and we’ll have some serious wagon shopping to do.
