In case you missed it, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
After Game 5, I was worried I’d have to write another Nucks recap on Sunday night. And I do.
For a Nucks 2nd Round Playoff Game!
Wow!
Not that I had any doubt about the former champs becoming former - as I noted in the game 1 recap:
After figuring out the Wild things, we expected a tougher battle against the former champs. I say former, because even if the Blues get past the Nucks (they won’t) there’s no way in bubble hockey hell they get to repeat. — jimmi.cynic
After my shaky faint confidence has proven stronger than suspected, this Nucks team has proven they can win over even the former champ’s big bruising boys. Even while losing their own big boy D.
Green is looking like a genius. Didn’t slag his bottom 6 when everyone in the media was calling for electric pitchforks.
The Nucks players have bought Green’s “We’re here to win” story and are ready to negotiate the movie deal.
Win as a team, lose as a team and then win even more as a team. Top to bottom, the Nucks are playing for each other. And us.
They believe. And so do we. Pretty much. Almost.
However, BerRuby gifted us a great chance right off the hop.
How? Why?
Let’s see the how, the why can wait for Westy’s tell-all novella.
1st Period
The game starts with...
Eggs bennington in net for the bad guys — Twitchy
That’s great news for the Nucks. Beenington was not clutch in the 1st couple games. But, because he was clutch last season, with his mind blewed, Berebe doesn’t start with Allen.
And the Nucks are breaking eggs real quick. While De la Rose is stepping on them. Or pucks.
The lethal Beagle cracks the 1st Nucks egg.
Beagle with the only goal in the 1st. It's 1-0 #Canucks after 20! pic.twitter.com/SZ42oREVfn

Regale Beagle Baby! — Chicky
It’s a less likely hero than Tyler Motte
Beagle carefully places the puck under the skate then scores! — Canta
You could hear him on the broadcast
saying “STEP ON THE LITTLE BLACK DOT! STEP ON THE BLACK DOT!” — Twitchy
The game, the series is already won by the Nucks.
We didn’t know that yet, but when the big dog with the Cup Ring scores, you know all underdogs will join in the pack hunt to clinch.
But, we didn’t know.
Instead, the refs give the Blues a power play. The Nucks don’t have Motte to lead the PK because he’s in the box.
Doesn’t matter. The UnMotte’d PK keeps the Blues at bay.
Since the period is winding down... well...
Beagle going into the box — Westy
It’s a last minute Nucks PK. Is that a problem?
The Canucks and the last minute of a period
always crazy — Westy
No it’s not.
Canucks Win!
The 1st period. — radivel
Marky is in the zone. The underjunkyard dogs are in the yard. Nucks out shoot the Blues 13-12 - the 1st time in the series the Nucks win a period shot count.
And of course, win the penalty count 2-0, but it doesn’t matter, because the Nucks lead 1-0.
2nd Period
The Nucks start where they finished. On the PK?
Nope. On the attack. Underdog style. Intense puckhounding. And 3rd line magic. 3rd?
Yup. Every line is going. For the net. First Nucks shot in several minutes, but a Roosy good one.
First #Canucks shot of the 2nd, first #Canucks goal of the 2nd. Efficient. pic.twitter.com/0RJWC44VRL

WOOOO ROOOS!
Noice! Not gonna lie, I was a bit more excited when we thought it was sutter. — Twitchy

It’s 2-nothing Nucks. The Nucks are enjoying the eggs Binnington.
But, wait! The feasting continues. Now with throwback Sedinery!
It’s a Stetch Game Winning Goal! Preceded by soooo much passing. Or just the right amount.
Excuse you @Canucks, this entire goal is disgusting. #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/gm6ec8ZB0J

WOOOOWW STETCH!
TIC TAC TOE play holy shit. — Twitchy

Calling Uncle Hank and Danny!
That felt like more overpassing than a Sedin shift, but it worked — Canta
It’s 3-0 Nucks and we’re not done. What? How?
The new look Nucks PP is on the ice and getting looks.
And goals.
The goal we’ve been waiting for. All series.
A Brockstar PP Goal! Woooo!
3️⃣ #Canucks goals in 5:57. Lots of hockey to play tonight, but also pic.twitter.com/JzaO2cImIr

YESSSSS BOESER!!!!
Finally on the scoresheet! Buhbye Eggs Bennington — Twitchy
And...
Brock *ABOUTTIME* Boeser!
Do we give first star to Berube at this point for putting Binnington in for this game? — Canta
No we don’t, but we’re happy to give him the NM Dishonourable Mention.
Out goes the ‘clutch’ goalie and in goes the decent, better numbers in this series goalie.
Doesn’t matter.
The Nucks keep on beating the Blues. Bo goes full Blues-crusher on...
Horvat taking out
douchenuts mcgheeperron. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. — Twitchy
Still the Blues do push back and hem and hem the Nucks on the Blues 5-on-5 power play. For over 2 minutes.
Because it’s 4-0 Nucks and even the regular Blues know the game is over. So does the game thread.
holy moly this is turning into a slaughter
4 goal lead, safest lead in hockey, much safer than the 5 goal lead — radivel
Hey... that’s my line... Or was. Or wasn’t.
I can’t remember, because I’m bouncing off and on the couch while trying not to disturb my recap assistant specialist feline who is in palliative care, while I’m getting a little selfish for a full time cat staffer.
Doesn’t matter.
Life, even cat life isn’t fair. And even less fair for the former champs. The game is out of reach. And...
Even Westy admits...
Great Period
I won’t complain about anything…for once — Westy
3rd Period
The Nucks have the safest lead in playoff hockey going into the 3rd. Just ask the Flamers.
The game thread is not as certain about that safety thing. And neither is the score card.
Well the relief
Of trying to maintain the shutout is over. That’s one I’m ok with. And we can shut them down now. — Chicky
Blues get their 1st goal of the game in the 6th minute of the 3rd. Only down 4-1. Plenty of time to get back on evens. Or is there?
Nope. It’s the MotteTrick. 3 goals in 2 games - it’s technical, would explain it, but would double the recap typing limit.
.@tmotte_14 is a scoring MACHINE!!!!! pic.twitter.com/F4BObePxTg
— Vancouver #Canucks (@Canucks) August 22, 2020
The safest lead in hockey is restored! 5-1 Nucks with 7 minutes to play.
One minute earlier, strategic game genus and winner of the NM Dishonourable Mention, pulls Allen with 8 minutes to play.
And after the Motte goal, pulls Allen again.
The game thread cued the Loui EN music, but Loui was out of earshot and empty net shot accuracy.
lol louie
even the open net shot was soft and missed. — Twitchy
$6 million
Empty net missing opportunities. — Chicky
To be fair, when Loui scores, the Nucks always win. But the Nucks have already won.
The clock is, for once, on our side and winding down to the final few minutes. The Blues aren’t quitting.
It’s their final 6-on-5 pretend power play. And of course they get a pretend goal.
Doesn’t matter.
Because, it’s time to double down with the house money. Again. Motte channels his inner Loui (last season’s Loui) and scores the EN goal.
MOTTE! ANOTHER 2 GOAL GAME!
BRING ON VEGAS! — CanuckGod-JC
Nucks win 6-2!!!
WIN their 1st Round Series in a decade!!! Defeat the former champs in 6 games. In their best game yet!
MOVING ON! pic.twitter.com/vkfJbbZ05v
— Vancouver #Canucks (@Canucks) August 22, 2020
Tyler Motte
never buys a drink in Vancouver again — Westy
What about Marky? He’s definitely getting Motte money now.

What a game! Amazing series performance by the new and old Nucks. Started strong, dipped a bit in the middle and finished stronger. Like most post-season Nucks games.
It’s Vegas on Sunday. Not much time to celebrate this historic series win. But we’ll celebrate like we have a full 48 hours of joy to savour.
On a personal note... my game recap assistant and general office diva, Lily, is leaving this planet soon. She’s had a good run after some terrible times as a street cat. But for the past 11 years her devoted staff have tried to repay her amazing sweetness in the face of adversity.
Lily, this win is for you! Even if you only watched 1 minute of the 2nd. She doesn’t need much time to decide the winner. Like a true Nucks fan, she often finds sticking her head in the sofa cushion the best way to watch a Nucks game.
Thanks, Lily, for all the great recap tips and a purrfect friendship!
