GAME DAY PREVIEW- Game 67: Canucks vs Colorado

New, comments

The Canucks paying tribute to the West Coast Express and the teams of the 2000’s is a nice distraction. Pay no attention to the garbage fire behind the curtain!

Colorado Avalanche v Vancouver Canucks

VANCOUVER CANUCKS vs COLORADO AVALANCHE

7:00PM PST ROGERS ARENA, VANCOUVER, BC

TV: SPORTSNET PACIFIC. RADIO: SN650.

OPPOSITION BLOG: MILE HIGH HOCKEY

Maybe it’s just me, but the timing of the slide the Canucks find themselves in coinciding with a game honouring the 2000’s and the West Coast Express glory days seems pretty on the nose considering the opponents they face tonight. Before the Canucks/Blackhawks rivalry, there was the Canucks/Avalanche one, and much like a lot of the one against Chicago, it was pretty one sided.

And while it’s gonna be great to see some of those guys out before the game (JOVOCOP!) during the ceremony (and sure, it’s gonna be a little awkward with Bertuzzi out there with the Avs in the house, not as awkward as Florida retiring Roberto Luongo’s number tomorrow night as they host the Canadiens instead of actually doing it when the Canucks visited earlier in the season, mind you), but if they lose this game tonight, they could very well be out of a playoff spot if Winnipeg and Arizona win their games.

LINEUPS:

This is what Colorado iced in their loss Wednesday night to Anaheim:

They have sent Martin Kaut back to their AHL club, and called up two players:

The Canucks sent Jalen Chatfield back, but continue to have Guilliaume Brisebois up on an emergency recall.

No word on any changes, but we’ll know more after the morning skate. Brisebois staying up does suggest that Tyler Myers is not going to be back for this game, though.

It’s a shame we won’t get to see Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes go head to head tonight, but maybe he’ll be ready to go next Friday when these two teams meet in Denver. The Avs beat the Canucks in OT 5-4 back in November. They’ll host Columbus Sunday night and the New York Islanders Tuesday before a back to back in Arizona and Denver (so nice of the NHL to put that 2nd game in Denver...) on Thursday and Friday.

GAME DAY BATTLE HYMN

OG Seattle bangers METAL CHURCH are up today with a track from Metal Massacre V, one of the best in the long running compilation series from Metal Blade Records. This version also contained tracks from OVERKILL, VOIVOD, FATES WARNING, and HELLHAMMER (pre-CELTIC FROST). This track still rips hard, man. RIP David Wayne.
