Silky N’ Filthy podcast | WC playoff round & Meanwhile in Canadia DEBUT!

New, comments

With hockey talk at a standstill, we expand on one of our favourite segments, Meanwhile in Canadia.

Calgary Flames v Vancouver Canucks
FEBRUARY 18: A portrait of former Vancouver Canuck coach Pat Quinn is displayed below the Canadian flag before the NHL game between the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena February 18, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. From weiner pranks to naked protestors, Meanwhile in Canadia has been one of the most bizarre and entertaining segments on Silky N’ Filthy.

With the NHL on pause (and multiple hockey shows still coming out on the Nucks Misconduct network), we wanted to spend some time on Silky N’ Filthy expanding on our favourite segment.

We hope you tune in to the latest episode to hear us taking Meanwhile in Canadia to the next level. For the first episode we talk about some unsung Canadian heroes and the best and worst of Canada (her gotta be fair to our fair country). We also debut “In French please,” as we try to brush up on our French, and Kyle tries to make me warm up to the city of Toronto.

By the way, he didn’t quite get there.

We didn’t totally ditch the hockey talk on this show of course. Both Kyle and I discussed two separate possibilities for the playoffs: A 24-team showdown and a meagre eight-team playoffs.

I think we’d all rather see a 24-team playoff scenario break down. In my preview, I had the top two teams in each division getting a bye. Then the following eight seeds in the Western Conference would match up in a three-game mini series, with team one versus team eight, two versus seven etc., regardless of division.

For the purpose of this exercise I ranked them just based on points accumulated so far this season. Here’s what the match-ups would look like in each Conference.

Western Conference

(1) Dallas Stars vs. (8) Chicago Blackhawks

(2) Calgary Flames vs. (7) Arizona Coyotes

(3) Winnipeg Jets vs. (6) Minnesota Wild

(4) Nashville Predators vs. (5) Vancouver Canucks

Eastern Conference

(1) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (8) Montreal Canadiens

(2) Toronto Maple Leafs vs. (7) Florida Panthers

(3) Carolina Hurricanes vs. (6) New York Rangers

(4) Columbus Blue Jackets vs. (5) New York Islanders

Hear more about the rationale for this round and the rest of the playoffs on the episode.

Now, even though the added Wild Card Round adds more entertainment, which playoff format is more likely?
