Silky N’ Filthy podcast | Joe Thornton Disrespect & Bubble Team Breakdown

One of the greatest NHL players of the century was done ditry.

I can understand if the bitter Canucks fan inside you doesn’t have sympathy for Joe Thornton.

Along with the Sedin twins, Joe Thornton is one of the greatest players of this era to not win a Stanley Cup. With the San Jose Sharks well out of the race, Jumbo Joe made it abundantly clear that he wanted to be traded to a contender.

He watched as teammates Patrick Marleau, Brendan Dillon and...Barclay Goodrow all get traded to contenders for their chance to win. Thornton, however, remains a Shark until the end of the season.

The topic of respect came up a couple of times on this episode. Myself and Kyle Bhawan debated about the Henrik Lundqvist situation in New York, where he basically became the third-stringer following Igor Shesterkin’s recall.

If you haven’t already, go check out Kyle’s latest “Sippin on a Coffee” post on the best defenceman in franchise history.

While Kyle and I agree on the Thornton issue, we weren’t as friendly with each other over the New York Rangers handling of their former star netminder.

Goalie conversations came up quite a bit on this episode, and we’ll throw this hypothetical poll question at you as well:

If Jacob Markstrom isn’t healthy until Game One of the playoffs, and Thatcher Demko performs admirably in Markstrom’s absence, who do you start in Game One?

Aside from hypotheticals and goalie conversations, we talked about the 12 bubble teams in the NHL and made our picks for who makes the playoffs.
