The improbable march towards the post season continues for the Vancouver Canucks, as they managed to rack up another win despite getting outshot yet again by an opponent, the win coming thanks in large part to another stellar night from Jacob Markstrom. It seems an unlikely recipe for success, but full credit to them for making the most of it. There are some interesting wrinkles appearing with the trade deadline looming though, the most recent one being the setback suffered by Micheal Ferland having to leave the first game of his conditioning stint in Utica with concussion-like symptoms. It’s extremely worrisome that he could be looking at his career possibly coming to an end as he doesn’t appear to be getting any better. That means we could see the Canucks looking to bring someone in at the trade deadline and oh, dear god please, don’t let it be Wayne Simmonds.

While Anaheim is long out of the race for a playoff spot in the West, that’s not to say that this is a mean-nothing game. We’ve been dying for meaningful hockey in Vancouver again, and every game here on in is a must win, and when it comes to teams beneath them in the standings, it should go without saying they should not be losing these.

It’s a bizarre schedule the Canucks have been given this season, one that is seeing them face the Ducks for just the 2nd time so far. The first meeting was a disappointing 2-1 OT loss in Anaheim that saw the Canucks thoroughly dominate the Ducks but manage just one goal on 40 shots against John Gibson.

Because Kent was called away on urgent NHL Alumni business, the NM Computational Bad Mood Music Chooser has chosen some random throwback with a tenuous connection to franchise history with a Canadian/Scottish mashup. Enjoy. Or don’t.
