The Sedins were in the ROG to have their numbers hoisted to the rafters. Numbers retired forever. So... no Kovalchukian comeback for us. Although by the mid-first, even they might have been considering it.
NucksNation were in the ROG and around the world to honour the Twins for making the Sedinery so beautiful and unique. Twice over.
Such amazing players and amazing people. We have been spoiled by Sedins - the bar is set pretty high.
As Juice explained.
Only the Sedins could follow that keynote roast.
And the first thing they stated, was their concern for Bouwmeester. Thinking of others even on their own tribute night.
NM will have more coverage of this epic era and the Sedin celebration, but we’re here to play hockey. Even if the team had to sit and watch Juice barbs for 45 minutes.
With their normal pre-game warm-up routines pre-empted, the game thread was a little uneasy about the start of the game.
The worst thing to happen on the Sedin’s big night, would be to let the Hawks control the game - or worse get an early lead.
The 2nd worst thing would be to let the Hawks have 13 shots on Marky and none on Crawford half way through the period. Or so we thought.
How about a Nucks shot on goal this period… — jimmi
no thanks...they can win without it — Westy
With that concern easily dismissed we waited to see if the Nucks were counting on the Hawks to score 1 or more own goals.
Because they weren’t going to score any on Marky.
Until they did. Except they didn’t. Saaaaaad was in Marky’s crease holding the top bar like holding a door when the puck slid into the net. Ref waved it off immediately.
Seemed obvious goaltender interference to everyone on the ice and in the ROG. Except perhaps Colliton, who was probably encouraged by Mark Crawford to challenge the unchangeable.
Of course, the game thread were available to coach the coach.
Sorry but that’s a pretty dumb challenge — Twitchy
Yeah, I don’t know what they’re doing.
And apparently, neither do they. — radivel
It’s a Nucks power play. Yay! It’s a Nucks PP. Oh no!
The 1st unit doesn’t start well, but with the latest Brownian tweaks, it finishes really well.
Almost Sedin-like tic-tack passing to setup Bo for the goal!
That was great.
Who needs 20 shots in a period when your opponents give you free power plays? Even Nucks power plays! — radivel
With only a third as many shots as the Little Windy Birds, the Nucks lead 1-0. In the 1st.
And the only lead that Marky will need.
But we didn’t know that yet. And no one in the ROG, the game thread or anywhere within spooking distance mentioned the 8-letter word.
Final shot tally was 17-7 for soon-to-be even more frustrated Hawks.
Game thread is pumping the ironing between periods.
Totally deserved lead. Canuck domination for the whole period.
Assist to the Hawks coaches — Canta
Now that the Nucks have the lead, have played through the pre-game emotional raftering, we know they will come out strong and push the play.
But no... instead, they play the patient game, while the Hawks hound Marky with wave after wave of rubber pucks. Pucks that were all stopped by Marky. And few rebounds. It was a goalie clinic that the Marquis De Save was saving for Lu to watch.
The game thread was clinically impressed.
More Marky Magic
Maybe he’s so good now because he’s gotten so much practice at this sort of thing for years in a row that he just learned how. — radivel
While the Nucks had put 1 more shot on Crawford, their 2nd shot of the period, missed Crawford entirely. But not the net.
It’s an act of Gaud! On another pretty passing play. After a big Benn hit on Caggs.
two Sedin-esque goals
so fitting — Nate
Wow! It’s 2-0 Nucks on less than 10 shots. Over 2 periods! That’s thrifty.
The period ends in total Marquis de Payday domination. Nucks, again, were outshot, 16-8. But it doesn’t matter.
The Nucks have the safest 2 goal lead in hockey. We just didn’t know that yet.
You might expect the Hawks to push for some more shots or something. Expectations met. Almost seemed as if the Nucks were reluctant to play in the offensive zone, in deference to the Twins. Or something.
Didn’t matter. What did matter, was Gaud’s pursuit of a Gordie hattie.
Murphy whacks Gaud. Gaud smites Murphy. And Gaud’s 1st NHL fight is live in the ROG. Does well for himself. But the refs, want to punish Gaud more than Murphy. Probably because of Murphy’s law and other inexplicable officiating reasons.
Game thread attempts to untangle the ref-nundrum.
Gaudette gets smashed in the head
but that doesn’t count. Only the slash that he delivered for getting smashed in the head counts. — radivel
Hawks are on the PP. For the 4th time in the game. Doesn’t matter. We have the best PK monster in the league.
Marky! — Twitchy
Never seen anyone make so many saves with their shoulder. — radivel
The PK does give the Nucks the chance to put a puck on Crawford. From 200 feet away on an Eddie clear.
Because this night is all about the Sedins, Sweden and Swedish goalies, the Hawks are even more frustrated than the previous 40 frustrating minutes.
Not as frustrated as the Nucks will be when they get their makeup call. PP spent more time in their own end than in the proper goal-getting end.
Was a tire fire of a power play — Twitchy
The Hawks apply more pressure. Late game, goalie-pulling pressure. As if that means anything on this night.
The Nucks have Marky and their Empty Net Specialists on the ice.
And just as the game thread predicted.
Knew the 200 ft goal was coming this period. — Twitchy
Oh man, the 200 foot shot game worked!!!
GOAL! — radevil
On this historic night, Marky makes Nucks history too. Stops 49 shots for the shut out. The most stops by any Nucks goalie for a shut out. That’s 50 years of shut outs. Ok, not every year... but still.
Marky is our MVP.
And the game’s first star. Making his own Sedin tribute in the most historic way.
Nucks get outshot 16-5 in the 3rd. Yeah... that’s a big margin. 49-20 in the game. That’s not so bad. Sure, not so good, but Marky is playing the full Vezinaean style, which is worth twice its weight in shots. Or something.
Nucks defeat the Hawks 3-0. Woooooooooooo!!!
Since we love to hear the 2 Johns, as Juice explained, let’s roll with the highlights.

Did Marky’s agent wait 10 seconds after the game before calling JB?
Did the Nucks give up too many chances? Yes. Did Marky give up a goal? No.
All’s well that ends well. Be nice though, if the team could give him a little more support and fewer giveaways.
Our season’s 1st star on the Sedin’s Jersey Retirement party and how he retired the Hawks.
3 point Sutz talks about Marky and tightening up the non-goaltender part of the game.
"This wouldn't have been a 3-0 win, or a win at all, without him." Sutter had a three point night, but he was praising Markstrom post-game. pic.twitter.com/mZ4Jfb9a9P— Vancouver #Canucks (@Canucks) February 13, 2020
Over in the Green room, Travis is counting shots and Marky blessings.
What a game! What a night!
Let’s get all teary-eyed all over again.
There’s another MUST WIN game on the weekend.
But for now, let’s just bask in the glow for a few days. Bask in the Sedinery that will forever grow fonder in our memories. Thanks, Hank and Dank!
