The Vancouver Canucks schedule for the truncated 2021 season has been released.
Vancouver will begin their season on Wednesday, January 13th in Edmonton against the Oilers. Rogers Place should be a familiar spot for the club, after they spent a little over a month there during the 2020 NHL playoffs.
The Canucks first home game will take place on Wednesday, January 20th against Tyler Toffoli and the Montreal Canadiens.
A majority season will follow a similar style to Major League Baseball, with teams playing 2-3 games against each other in one arena, in an effort to reduce travel during the pandemic.
Here are some other interesting tidbits about the schedule here:
- The Canucks have six back-to-backs on the schedule, with four of them occurring within the first four weeks of the season.
- The longest homestand of the season is six games, which includes two triple-headers against the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators between Wednesday. January 20th and Thursday, January 28th.
- The longest road trip of the season is seven games between Saturday, April 3rd and Wednesday, April 14th, with games against Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary.
If the “North” Division is as close as we all imagine it to be, then the final five games of the Canucks season could have some serious meaning.
After four straight games against the Ottawa Senators (two in Vancouver, two in Kanata), the Canucks end their season at Toronto twice, versus Edmonton twice, and versus Calgary to end the season on Saturday, May 8th.
