Were we all looking forward to this last game on the road? No, we were not. While the Nucks pulled out a win in tough-to-play-in Winterapolis Winntersota, tonight the Nucks were tasked to get a win in a rink they haven’t won in since Tostitos and Bow Hunting were part of NM vocab.
Such... a very long time ago.
Oh well... the good news is... this recap, like the game, will soon be over.
1st Period
The good news about the 1st period is... hidden in some statistician's coat pocket. Which contains 74.5% unnatural pocket lint.
Already the game thread is picking sides.
Petey misses open net
then hits crossbar
The world is against us — Westy
The bad news is the Nucks were outscored. Twice. Didn’t get the 1st goal of period. Or the 2nd one.
In fact they got no goals at all. That’s not very hospitable and they say ‘Peggers are great hosts. They say a lot of things.
Shorty and Cheech
are correct in saying Hellebuyck has the Canucks number — Westy
Nucks get the immoral victory on the shot clock - outshoot Jetties 13-10.
The other high point... was...uh... the Nucks PK didn’t allow a goal.
2nd Period
And then, since Tanev went to the box in the last seconds of the 1st, he can’t help the Nucks PK. And neither can Marky.
Marky lets a weak on through the legs
stick should have been down — Westy
It’s 3-0 Jets. That’s the end. But the cruel NHL must stretch out the agony to the joy of Jet fans.
Yet... there’s a slight tinge of game thread optimism.
Jake on the first line
is one way to go when down 3-0 — Westy
Misplaced optimism, because... Nuck luck.
With 3 power plays granted to the Nucks, the tide could turn. Or the game thread stomachs.
Oh.... the Jets
have got the penalty fever… but the Nucks 1st unit has the anti-score fever… so… — jimmi
put the 3rd unit out — Westy
Sadly, the Nucks have run out of units. But Hellebuyck hasn’t run out of posts. Or pads or gloves.
From my sketchy accurate game log:
- 2nd Elias Pettersson Slap Shot saved by Connor Hellebuyck
- 2nd Bo Horvat Wide of Net
- 2nd Brock Boeser Slap Shot saved by Connor Hellebuyck
- 2nd Tyler Myers Wrist Shot saved by Connor Hellebuyck
The amoral victories still keep winning, however, as the Nucks outshoot the Jets 14-9.
The game thread is thinking about pulling Marky. Or the plug. Whatever. There’s a full 15 5 minutes of hockey left to play.
3rd Period
The full period isn’t available at the moment. Please check back later.
Like a team with the safest 3 goal lead in hockey, the Hellebuyckian Jets keep the comeback kids from coming back.
At least until the final 4 minutes of the game. As the game thread wished, Nucks pull Marky and try the odd man advantage gambit.
It almost seemed possible the Nucks would score... but..
Oh dear...
Millsie too cutesie – shoot at the open net next time, k? — jimmi
Despite the Nucks out chancing Winterpeg 20-14, Hellebuyck is now 7 and 1 against the Nucks. He’s had 2 shutouts in those 8 games. Nucks have been out-scored by the Jets 25-6 in that bad batch of tilts.
Can the 2 Johns make the start and finish of this forgettable game more memorable?

How far back do we have to go for a Nucks regulation win in Winnipeg? 5 years? 10?
Keep going.
Last regulation win was in 1996. Over the original Jets, who are now desert dogs. Which bodes well for the Nucks next game. It does, doesn’t it?
Since it was a loss, Capt’n Bo takes the cold heat.
"I thought we did a lot of good things and carried play for the majority of the game, their goaltender stood on his head. It would have been a different story if we buried our opportunities." - Bo Horvat pic.twitter.com/rTkl7k26VW

This game could have been a good option for Demko. Or just leave the net vacant. Covered by a small 4x8 sheet of plywood with a duct-tape’d on Kirk McLean poster. Yeah... he was the last Canuck goalie to get a regulation win over the “Jets” in the ‘Peg.
Oh well... at least they weren’t shutout by a Floridian team.
The road trip is over. Finally. The longest 5 game road trip this year. So far.
Oh well... it’s back home to play in the happy ROG and Roll ‘em rink. That will be covered in melting snow on Thursday. The entire staff and heavy drinkers in the game thread lounge will be hoping the Nucks start fast, score early and often to make the yotes wish they were back in Winterpeg.
Have a happy lumpy hump day. And don’t forget to enjoy the game.
