It’s the news we were all waiting for, and while it’s maybe not the best possible scenario for the Canucks, in terms of getting a short deal done this one isn’t that bad.
It can cause them some headaches when it’s time to do this again with Boeser in 3 years, especially with the way the deal is structured in terms of qualifying offers. While the cap hit is $5.875 Million per season, it pays him $7.5 Million in the last year of the deal. As they start to plan for the future, and have the Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes contracts to deal with once their ELC’s are done, they will need to make sure they’ve cleared some of the deadwood deals that made the Boeser deal a lot harder than it needed to be.
For now though, we can enjoy that a guy the Canucks hope can be a huge piece of the puzzle is back, and he will be joining the team in Vancouver on Wednesday. No word when he’ll be ready to go for game action.
