SAN JOSE SHARKS 6 ST LOUIS BLUES 3- (San Jose leads series 1-0)

Timo Meier and Logan Couture each scored twice, and the Sharks got goals from Joe Pavelski and Kevin LaBanc en route to a 6-3 win in Game One of the Western Conference Finals last night at the SAP Center in San Jose. Martin Jones stopped 28 of 31 St Louis shots for the victory. Couture got things rolling for the Sharks less than 4 minutes in:

St Louis would battle back to tie it on the 1st goal of the playoffs from Joel Edmundson, though the goal was originally thought to be Jaden Schwartz’s 9th of the post-season:

Right after that, the Blues got into penalty trouble and Pavelski, with some nice hand-eye coordination, makes them pay on the 5 on 3:

On to the Second Period now and the Sharks would make it a 2 goal lead on a snipe from LaBanc:

St Louis would keep it close though as Ryan O’Reilly got his first of the series:

Timo Meier had enough of that by this time and offered up one of the best goals of the playoffs so far:

And then a lucky bounce to make it 5-2:

The Blues would get one back in the 3rd from Tyler Bozak:

But Logan Couture’s 2nd of the game put an exclamation point on this one in more ways than one:

The Sharks showed that the Blues cannot afford to make a mistake against them if they want to win this series. San Jose was effective on the rush, and used their speed to create turnovers against St Louis all night. The dying minutes of the game also featured this bit of bullshit from Robert Bortuzzo, with the sucker punch of Barclay Goodrow.

David Backes would be proud. Game 2 goes Monday night at the Shark Tank.
