NEW YORK ISLANDERS VS CAROLINA HURRICANES- 3:00OM EDT/12:00PM PDT- (Carolina leads 1-0)

The Islanders will be looking to avoid going down 2-0 to the Hurricanes today in the early game of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series. Jordan Staal scored the OT winner on Friday night in a goaltender’s duel that saw Robin Lehner as the first one to crack, and it will be interesting to see how the Isles respond to their first loss of the post-season. One thing that needs to change is New York’s PP. They went 0-4 in Game 1, and if they want to get back into this series they’re going to need to take advantage of Carolina when they’ve taken a penalty. The Hurricanes are managing well despite not a lot of rest and some key injuries. It looks like Andrei Svechnikov, Jordan Martinook and Micheal Ferland will again be out of the lineup. Rod Brind’amour has been getting a commendable effort from his entire lineup in light of that.

SAN JOSE SHARKS VS COLORADO AVALANCHE- 7:30PM EDT/4:30PM PDT- (San Jose leads 1-0)

Colorado came out a bit flat in Game 1, and we can expect them to try and use their speed to wear down the Sharks and draw even for Game 2. The Sharks are 9-2 lifetime when they take a 2-0 series lead, while Colorado’s gone 1-4 down by 2, so it’s imperative that the Avs get the split before the series shifts back to Denver for Games 3 and 4. They’re going to have to find a way to deal with Brent Burns, who had his best performance of the playoffs so far in Game 1.

They’re also going to have to figure out how to win at the SAP Center, as they have just 2 wins in San Jose since the start of the 2008-09 season.
