CAROLINA HURRICANES 1 NEW YORK ISLANDERS 0 (OT)- (Carolina leads 1-0)

A goaltender’s battle is something we haven’t seen a ton of in the playoffs so far, but we had a great one in Brooklyn as Robin Lehner and Petr Mrazek were stopping everything that came their way. And of course, the only goal of the night would be one that shouldn’t have been gotten past Lehner, but it was a shot from a bad angle by Jordan Staal that squeaked by him in OT to give the Hurricanes Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semi Final series. Both goalies made 31 saves. Game 2 is Sunday afternoon at the Barclays Center.

SAN JOSE SHARKS 5 COLORADO AVALANCHE 2- (San Jose leads 1-0)

Brent Burns had a goal and 3 assists and Martin Jones stopped 26 of 28 Colorado shots en route to a 5-2 win in Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinal series last night at the SAP Center in San Jose. The Avs lead 1-0 and 2-1 before a 3 goal 3rd period from the Sharks put the game out of reach. The Sharks also got goals from Gustav Nyquist, Joe Thornton, Kevin LeBanc and Timo Meyer, while Gabriel Bourque and Colin Wilson scored for Colorado, who also got another assist from rookie Cale Makar. Game 2 goes Sunday night before shifting to Denver for Games 3 and 4.
