Gamethread #75: Canucks vs Flames

The last meeting of the year between Vancouver and Calgary.

Remember the first game of the year?

I sure don’t. I do remember the excitement around Elias Pettersson and he didn’t disappoint that night as the Canucks had Calgary their first loss of the year.

Fast forward to tonight and we see the difference in the two teams as the year progressed. The Flames are a team that has been slowly built and after a few management changes over the past few years, have finally got some luck in finding players that can play with Johnny Hockey and a goalie that is better than Mike Smith.

The Canucks have been playing a game that is just good enough to win over the past three games. Last game should have been a blowout of epic proportions and instead it turned into a nail-biter. The Canucks need a few more players to make that jump into a playoff team.

The Canucks can play the role of spoiler again tonight as no one wants to face Vegas in the first round. The Flames are 4 points ahead of SJ with a game in hand. Right now they look they would face Dallas or Minnesota. The Flames have lost 3 out 4 to the Canucks this year. Let’s cheer for another.
