The players available? Discussed. Scenarios? Dissected. Potential moves that might help the team? Gone through ad nauseam. All that’s left now is the screaming.
The NHL Trade Deadline takes effect at 3pm Eastern time, and there’s a number of potential huge trades that could happen today. There’s already been some movement over the last few days, which has people hopeful for a crazy and chaotic deadline day.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have made a couple big moves so far, acquiring Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel from the Ottawa Senators in separate deals. There’s been some other notable moves as well. The New York Rangers sent Mats Zuccarello to Dallas (and saw him subsequently get injured in his first game as a Star), while the Ducks sent Brandon Montour to Buffalo last night.
So here’s how this will go, as it has in past years. We’ll be doing what we can to bring you info as it becomes available. If you find something on Twitter, feel free to post it in the comments, but do take care you don’t get sucked in by fake accounts out there. Speculation is fine, but make sure you clarify it’s that and not an actual deal. Other than that, make sure you’ve let your boss know that you won’t be coming in today. I mean, this should be a national holiday anyway.
As far as Canucks to keep an eye on, there’s 2 Canucks listed in TSN’s top 50 list: Markus Granlund and Nikolay Goldobin. I’m honestly not expecting either of these guys to be moved, and it should be a quiet day for the Canucks overall. GM Jim Benning has stated repeatedly any deal made today will not include 2019 draft picks, and will have to be a hockey deal that makes sense.
I tried to think of a drinking game for today for those of you so inclined, but the only one I could come up with is if Erik Gudbranson gets traded: Drink. If he doesn’t: Drink.
