The annual tournament to determine the nation with the best Under 20 players is set to go, this year Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic playing host. And as is tradition, the big match of the day features two powerhouse, bitter rivals going head to head to open the tournament: Canada and the United States.
One thing that’s different this time around for Canada is their age. This is one of the youngest teams they’ve ever sent, and it looks like they’re focusing more on putting together a team with the best players available than perhaps the most experienced. They’re led by the young man who should go first overall in the 2020 draft, Alexis Lafreniere. The QMJHL star has 70 points in 32 games thus far for Rimouski. The Americans will be looking to Cole Caufield, the Montreal Canadiens draft pick to lead the way. Caufield has 20 points in 18 games for Wisconsin in the NCAA.
