RECAP: NUCKS Get Fawked - Drop Game 5-2

Can’t Win Them All. Also.... OMG! Can’t Win Them All!!!

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks
Is it a Nucks 3-on-1? Or something else...
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

A brutal eastern road trip opens in the windy city at dinner time. Did we know that our tender young Orcas would be on the menu?

No. We expected our tough, battle-hardened road Nucks to start with a jump and finish with a leap (up the standings).

And that’s exactly what happened. For the home team. Can only assume each team’s pre-game notes were mixed up.

Or maybe the Nucks, having battled back against the Blues and matched them last game, have nothing left to prove this late in the season.

Or... maybe the issue isn’t with the team, but the NM game thread, which claims only to be passive observers of the game - yet peppers the thread with gifs and groans.

With enough blame to travel far and wide, the NM Victory at All Cost Command will have them all punished.

Let the punishment begin!

1st Period

Nucks are starting slow... because they heard the Hawks are slow and stale. Their plan is working. Hawks are wearing themselves out putting shots on Marky.

And past. Debrinkie gets checked by 3 Nucks and while falling puts a puck past Marky.

It’s 1-0 Fawking hell. For the 11th time in 16 games, the Canucks give up the 1st goal of the game. For Fawks sake.

Must like playing from behind. Half way through the period and Hawk shots are 12-3 to our former home team, now our road team.

Just to make the comeback more dramatic or something the Nucks give up a late powerplay goal from S***. No, Shaw, not S***.

Anyhow the period ends and Westy is as happy as game thread punishment permits:

Terrible period for the Nucks outplayed by the Hawks

Not only is the game thread getting punished, the Faeries are recruiting in Chicago.

The Nucks shot count pushback made the count 17-17 at the horn. Also at the horn, the Nucks power-play is looking semi-dangerous.

2nd Period

The Nucks power-play is still working. Right through intermission and into the 1st minute.

And Pete is looking for a lane. Doesn’t see one, but spots a deflection point. The Miller point. It’s a PP Goal!

Wooo! The comeback is complete. There’s no point showing off anymore.

Sure, there were some chances and the Nucks outshoot the red homers 12-10, but the actual tie going into the 2nd will have to wait.

We’re on the board Whereas in the first period, we were not on the board.. So, baby steps - Chicky

3rd Period

The baby stepping continued with some back and forth for far too long before the Nucks tie it up.

Instead, the Hawks get another goal to push the tie goal goal even higher. Worse, in the last few minutes with Marky leaving his net to avoid any 3 on 1 issues, the Hawks score again.

Down 4-1 with 2 mins to go. Time to make a statement.

Virt tips Eddie’s statement and Crawford is beaten. Again.

Nucks are up 2 to 4. That’s 50% of a tie and ought to be enough for anyone. But, it’s not.

Penalties the death of the Canucks tonight - Westy

That and not scoring 5 goals in a period. Those games where they score 5 in a period have a much better outcome. Instead, the Hawks gild their lily-hearted lead with another empty netter. Hawks have 5 goals. The Nucks don’t.

It’s over. Before the comeback even got its back into it. Dammit.

Low highlights. Stay low and look away.

Miller echoes Westy’s analysis.

Just got to be better.

That’s simple and direct. Also scoring the first 5 goals is a good option on the road, since getting all 4 points from this 2 game road trip will now need to happen in a single game.

Just put this game in the can and enjoy your fabulous Friday. In Winterpeg. At dinner time. No pressure.
