Daytime games are not kind to the Canucks. We looked forward to this home game after a pointless road trip, because a bounce back statement game was on the schedule.
Turns out, it was on the Devils schedule - but with more bounces. They were blanked by the Oil previous game, so why do we care? We don’t.
This game, the Nucks did score a goal. So, it was 1000% improvement over their last meeting with the Devils. But, the Devils output doubled too. And worse, won the game in a single period. Ugh.
1st Period
Nucks start sluggish. And loose in their own end. Sloppy hockey can be fun - on the air hockey board.
In the ROG... well.... let’s turn to the game thread for once-was-live reporting...
Nice start.
Nucks keeping their back-to-back penalty streak going. While the lumberyards in the lower mainland are celebrating…Schaller needs to get us a shortie - jimmi.cynic
Less than a minute after the 1st penalty was killed by the semi-legendary Nucks PK, the no longer legendary Nucks PK can’t keep unlucky Marky from getting bulldozed.

Let’s take a closer look...

Of course the goal stands. The NHL refs just don’t have the fancy camera angles available that we pleb fans do. Also, the NHL Command Center in the CoTU have already given us the one fair review per season.
Some may say that Eddie pushed Palmeiri into Marky. I’m not one of them. If an opposing player can’t control his own body movements in mid-air on the way to crashing into Marky, his team doesn’t deserve the first goal. It’s a rule. I just made up.
Shitty, bad goal, sure. But the Nucks were tempting fate with B-2-B penalties.
At least the Nucks will settle down, play better and tighten up team D.
Or not.
Oh fer FFS!
another Jersey goal….all they need is one… greedy bastards - jimmi cynic
The Devils get in on the rush and Quinn lets his guy get a sneaky tip in front of Marky. Marky mad. No matter what, he won’t let Jersey score another on him.
Unfortunately, while Marky kept his vow, Devils don’t need another goal, now that the Nucks need 2 or more. Ugh.
Devils outshoot the Nucks 11-8 through one. And much, much worse, outscore us 2 to none. Nucks get a late power-play, but it’s against team ethos to score on the 1st man advantage. Ok, not so much an ethos, but a really annoying habit.
Bad Sunday - afternoon for Marky. Goalie interference on the PP goal. Cheeky deflection on the 2nd goal. - jimmi
2nd Period
As you can tell by the various quotes, the afternoon game thread was well attended. By me. And at this point, I’m not feeling too well.
No matter. That terrible first is over and the Nucks can play better, simpler hockey. Because 2nd periods are the comeback period of NucksNation.
Marky stops a certain break away goal by Hall. Vow kept.
And the Nucks play better. And draw a penalty. Which means deep sighs in the ROG.
Or does it? Brockstar doesn’t think so. Wrists a wicked shot through Blackwood.

Wooo! No shutout for Blackwood - he’s not perfect anymore.
It’s 2-1 for the Nucks. Or 1-2. Whatever.
Nucks have the momentum. The will to comeback and tie the game. Not just in this period, because, not polite to score more than one goal in a period game.
Nucks outshoot the Devils 14-10. And even better, score more goals too. Goals = 1 Goal. But really the one Nucky goal ought to be enough, if only the goalie interference rules were enforced. By NM game thread attendees.
3rd Period
Green is putting the lines in the blender. JT is playing wingman for Bo. Gotta get a greasy goal. Or a high skill goal. Or a fluky goal.
We just want another goal. Get to OT, then worry about losing the bonus point.
One More Goal, Nucks!
Is that asking so much? 1 now and 1 in OT. Ok, that’s 2 more, but is that very much more? - jimmi
Yes, yes it is...
Nucks have to learn to win 1-0 games. While trying not to let opposing teams score 2 or more. - jimmi
Wanting and getting are very different things when staring into that deep dark 4 game losing abyss.
As close as getting another goal is Jersey not getting the EN. The Nucks plummeting Goals For/Against stat is saved by the horn.
Let’s see if the 2 Johns can this Sunday highlight for us.
Nope. Only the Nucks can do that.

Are the Nucks trying too hard to be fancy? Have they lost the simple team game? Am I losing my mind too early in the season?
So many questions. So few goals for. Remember when every line was scoring? Seems it was just last month. But last month is so.... last month.
At least Quinn can be satisfied he collected more points than his brother....
Hughes said the #Canucks did enough good things to score more and win this game. But it's back to the drawing board. pic.twitter.com/O77qIAUe02

Coach ‘Last Half’ Green just needed a switch up.

Sometimes you just go through 4 game losing streaks. We know that from last season. We also know that if you string enough 4 game losing streaks together, NucksNation is rewarded with more late spring yard work.
Fine. Four game L-streak. It stops now.
Seriously. Stop it now. We have a chance to make NM couch coaching great again. Don’t mess it up.
Tuesday is the best day for redemption. Instead of facing an eastern powerhouse, the Nucks take on a middling team from the near-east. The Preds. Who were easily outscored by the Avs the other night. The Avs we easily outscored last year. Ergo... the Nucks will almost pretty sure outscore the Smashvillains.
Keep your hopes high, NM, or at least higher the prone empty bottle level.
