A fun night on the Duck pond? Not really.
Out-played all the Ducks but one? Definitely.
Disneyland hasn’t been the happiest scoring place on Earth for the Nucks in recent seasons. Last year on the SoCal Scarevember tour, Nucks were shutout. Tonight with Gibson in net, it almost happened again.
And almost is close enough. Almost.
1st Period
Last game the Nucks PP won the game. Tonight’s Nucks PP almost lost the game. Because... of the keystone swinging sticks in their own zone. And fowl little shot from Silfverberg.
It’s 1-0 Ducks on their PK. Ugh.
But wait. It gets worse.
Quinn catches a rut and twists an ankle. That’s the official view. NM game thread saw what really happened. It’s Faerevember after all.

Injury Update: Hughes suffered a lower body injury and will not return tonight.

Oh FFS!
Nucks ruffle the Duck feathers out shooting the fowl hosts 19-5, but trail 1-zip. It’s not fair. The price of playing in Disneyland where all the goalies are perfect. For now.
2nd Period
Nothing good happened. Except Marky making game saving saves.
With the offence unable to break the Ducks shutout, Marky being Marky has kept us in this one. #Canucks down 1-0 after 40. pic.twitter.com/AS8BSUXLIc

The Nucks No Luck PP continued without any luck. The PK was again perfect.
Shot count was more even, 14-13 Nucks. Score is still 1-0 Ducks. Uck it.
3rd Period
No worries.
As we saw in Jersey the Nucks can come back from 1-nothing and win. Ok, we didn’t see that in NJ... anyhow, not the point.
The point is the Hockey Gaud is back and making perfect bank shots.
Gaudette's shot goes off Holzer and in! COUNT IT! pic.twitter.com/C2NE7JNQq5
— Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) November 2, 2019
We love to have Gaud on our side.
Late in the period, Marky takes a ‘Smothering the Puck’ penalty. Smothered the puck outside the paint. Fortunately, the puck was revived just in time for a Ducking power-play. Dammit.
Praise puck-blocking Tanev and the PK, the Nucks survive the weird penalty and the Nucks PK keeps its perfect record.
Then the Nucks put the pedal to the post. Last few seconds of the period, Pete puts a shot off the post. The ring deafened Gibson. Game thread is wishing it blinded him.
Oh well. Got a point and now we’re off to OT where Hughes, Pete and Brock can... oh crap.
Oh well... a tie on the road is almost as good as a win. Sort of.
OT
One road point is all we need. I know, we want more, but Marky isn’t feeling the pokie stickie luck, so... he tries to stick check Getz at what seemed like center ice. And Getz makes Marky stare at ice crystals. Dang.
Oh well. A point is a point. And a road point is worth 2 at home.
The 2 Johns aren’t talking, so turn down the sound.

Here’s the 2nd best goalie on the night sporting his Thor Ragnarok hair cut.

Tanev is hoping for a short faery dusting.

The Green Room is back on the road, but Travis said:
“We played well - 70 shot attempts - good road game”
And Travis gave us some Quinning hope:
“Haven’t ruled anyone out for tomorrow night”
At least this Duck pond game is over. A game the Nucks dominated. Could have/should have won, but for Gibson. Can’t win them all. And we don’t expect them to. 60-70 win season could be enough for most of NM.
One more SoCal stopover in the tank tomorrow night. The Sharks lost to the ‘Peg, so are prepped to lose another game. And that’s the important thing. A win in the Shark Tank would give the Nucks a 5 point Cali road trip.
Those points would go some ways to making road trips worthwhile. Because there’s more road trip games this month than home games. And to get that 60-70 win season, will require more road wins than we’ve been accustomed to. And I’m ok with that.
Happy hangover Saturday to those who used Westy’s rum therapy yoga mat between and during periods. Enjoy the must-win win.
