Score Predicting Wizards

The regular season is upon us! Huzzah!

This means it’s time for the annual Nucks Misconduct “Score Predicting Wizard” competition.

This is your chance to pit your wits against the other wits (and half-wits) of the NM community by making your sage predictions of the winner, score, and game winning goal scorer in each of the Canucks games. One point each for a total of three possible points.

Make your prediction in the pre-game article comments. Deadline is puck-drop.

As in the past, you will win a point if you correctly predict the score, but read your crystal ball in a mirror and get the wrong team as the winner.

For instance: the classic 2011 prediction of “4-2 Canucks, GWG Daniel” would garner a point each for the score, the team, and the GWG scorer. But if the pesky Predators won the game by a score of 4-2 you’d still get a point.

At the end of the regular season a winner will be announced with great fanfare, and crowned the SPW champion. There has never been any other prize, but who knows, maybe one of Kent’s unwashed sweat-socks will be nailed to a piece of used salmon cedar plank and presented at a local sports bar during the first Canucks game of the playoffs. Yes I said it: PLAYOFFS BABY!

In the unlikely event of a tie, it will be broken by the Wizard who predicted less Canucks losses. Back in the day this was known as a “Numbskull” prediction because who needs negative thinking? As we descended into the darkest days of the rebuild it may have been more realistic than negative, but now that we are in a season of hopeful rejuvenation I’m bringing back the “Numbskull” rule: you still get the points, but you get the ridicule too (and now you get a “Numbskull point” counted against you for the tie-breaker).

To get you in the mood, let us know your predictions for Canucks wins this season in the poll below. You may want to consult Westy’s Article for inspiration.
