This is the end...of the preseason

Not a lot of winning so far

NHL: Preseason-Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

This is the end of the preseason for the Canucks. It has been very interesting to see the variety of ways the Canucks have lost a game. I have a preference with a good 40 minute game and fall apart in the third. I think they have mastered that and should practice the other ways. I mention losing as I predict we will be seeing a lot of it this year. Our forward group hasn’t looked great, our defense is...well....consistent. Our goalies have been shaky at times as well.

The one thing we do know is that Elias Pettersson deserves to be on this team. But he is going to struggle. He is a skinny guy who will get out-muscled on the dot. He will get knocked down in the neutral and in the corners. And he will get points because of his creativity, his speed and his vision around the ice. I think other Canucks would be wised to keep their sticks on the ice around the net.

The Canucks end the preseason against a Coyotes team that continues to rebuild and improve. With OEL, Keller, Galchenyuk and Strome, the Coyotes are changing the identity of the team after Doan stopped playing. They will be fast and hungry to show they are better than the Canucks...which they are.

Enjoy the game tonight. Have a drink, but pace yourself. The season will be a long one and it begins on Wednesday.
