Are we ready, campers???

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at Vegas Golden Knights Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Camp is in full swing up at Whistler, and as of this moment, there are no injuries to re... Oh, come on!?!?! Seriously???

Please see my post from earlier today regarding tempering of expectations. Ahem.

Here’s the groupings for today’s sessions (take note of the goaltenders in Group B)

The #CanucksGoaltendingControversy is real, yo. Also, admit it: you scanned the lists for the name ‘Sedin’ both out of habit and hope, right?

Alex Edler is in the last season of his deal, making $5M this year. Should the Canucks re-sign him, or should they, depending on his play this season, try and move him at the deadline? It’s an intriguing question, and one that will need to be explored. For his part, Edler would love to stay a Canuck...

The great thing about training camp is the answering of the more important questions about the upcoming season:

The big news this morning was not good for the Detroit Red Wings as they announced that Henrik Zetterberg’s hockey career has come to an end.

This is a huge blow to a team that is already looking like they will be contending for the first overall pick along with the Senators, Canucks and Coyotes. If there is a bright spot for the Wings, it’s that they can place him on LTIR for the remainder of his 3 remaining contract years, giving them some cap space that will come in handy down the road as they rebuild...

As bad as things are here in Vancouver and over in Detroit, you really have to feel for Ottawa Senators fans right now. After being told that their plans for the future do not include Erik Karlsson, and trading him away for what could be described as a poor return at best, they also have lost Jean-Gabriel Pageau for a significant amount of time

The hits just keep on coming for a team that desperately needs a change in ownership and off-ice leadership...

Meanwhile, if you’re not already depressed about the state of the game...

In other news, the Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to release Jake Dotchin from his contract... The Chicago Blackhawks won’t be getting Corey Crawford back in the lineup yet. Crawford has been suffering from concussion symptoms since Christmas... And for those of you who don’t value sleep, the pre-season begins in just over 12 hours as the Boston Bruins take on the Calgary Flames in this year’s version of the China Games...
