The Caps have played well without him, but you know they’re going to be happy to have Nicklas Backstrom back in the lineup if he’s ready to go tonight. Backstrom suffered a hand injury against Pittsburgh and has been out the last 4 games, but it looks like he could be ready to roll tonight.

One thing the Caps need to do tonight is get their PK back in order. The Bolts took a 2-0 lead on their first two PP opportunities on Tuesday, so trying to shut down what Tampa’s doing or barring that, avoid taking penalties is going to be the key for Washington. For Tampa, it’s pretty simple: Don’t fix what ain’t broken. After getting outplayed for a lot of the first two games they showed up in this one, and will do so again tonight. They’ll also want to avoid penalties, as the Caps PP, especially Alex Ovechkin will be looking to respond in kind this evening.
