TORONTO MARLIES @ UTICA COMETS
7:00 PM EDT/ 4:00 PDT
Adirondack Bank Center, Utica, NY
This ain’t gonna be easy. Yet unlike the seemingly Herculean task of coming back from a 3-0 series deficit, 2-0 is doable. Sure, it’s still against the best team in the AHL, but it’s far from a foregone conclusion. And with this potentially being the last game the Comets play this season, one has to hope that Coach Trent Cull decides to get the kids in and turn them loose. Jonathan Dahlen, Lukas Jasek (who was injured in Game 1 and is unable to play tonight) and Kole Lind have all played well in their debuts, and given the crazy, injury and call-up plagued season the Comets have had to endure, why not roll the dice and see what the kids can do?
If one thing is going to help them, especially if they win tonight, it’s that the Marlies haven’t been able to get some reinforcements from their parent club. With the Leafs playing Game 7 tonight and potentially moving on to the 2nd round, the Marlies would have to make due with who they have, and while that’s still a damn good team, players like Travis Dermott and Andreas Johnsson won’t be able to help them in Games 4 and 5 if necessary.
Reid Boucher is back in Utica so you can expect him in the lineup tonight. Boucher had 25 G and 21 A in 45 games for the Comets this season. Darren Archibald is also back, but wasn’t sent back to play. He will be dropping the puck in the ceremonial faceoff and helping get the crowd riled up tonight (as if they need any help).
