THE ROUNDUP: Leafs Strike Back, Avs Solid At Home, Devils Back In It and Ducks Devoured By Sharks

The Leafs, Devils and Avalanche all took advantage of home ice and got the first wins of their series. San Jose won at home, too as they embarrassed Anaheim.

TORONTO 5 BOSTON 2 (Bruins lead series 2-1)

The Leafs got a superb effort from Frederik Andersen, and got 2 goals from Patrick Marleau en route to a 5-2 win at the ACC over Boston last night. The Leafs also got goals from Auston Matthews and James Van Riemsdyk, while the Bruins got tallies from Adam McQuaid and Zdeno Chara. The Leafs did a great job shutting down the Bruins top line, with Tomas Plekanic having an especially strong game.

One of the reasons why I could never cheer for Boston, even against the Leafs? Jack Edwards, and he was ass his obnoxious, stereotypical Masshole “best” last night as he lost his proverbial shit over a play whistled down because of an injured player on the ice.

Let’s get a closer look at that hit, shall we?

Look at Marchand’s right leg. He extends it out to take out Johnsson as he’s going down. There were some saying it wasn’t deliberate but come on, this guy gets ZERO benefit of the doubt here.

Game 4 goes Thursday night in Toronto.

NEW JERSEY 5 TAMPA BAY 2 (Lightning lead series 2-1)

Taylor Hall had a goal and 2 assists, Cory Schneider got his first playoff win since 2013 and Stephan Noesen scored the winner as New Jersey won an emotional Game 3 to cut the deficit in their series against Tampa 2-1. Will Butcher, Blake Coleman and Ben Lovejoy also scored for the Devils. Alex Killorn with his 4th and Steven Stamkos’ 1st of the playoffs were all the Lightning could muster against Schneider, who played one of his best games of the season last night.

COLORADO 5 NASHVILLE 3 (Predators lead series 2-1)

A big 3rd period helped fuel Colorado to their first win of the series, a 5-3 victory over Nashville at the Pepsi Center last night. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, and Gabriel Landeskog, who set up both of MacKinnon’s goals, added his own in the 3rd to put the game out of reach. Things got a little ugly in the 2nd when the refs seemed to miss this PK Subban sucker punch on MacKinnon.

To say Avs fans are sensitive to things like that is an understatement, and I am kind of surprised we haven’t heard anything from DoPS about this (well, not really). That being said, reports of racist slurs being yelled at Subban by Avs fans aren’t cool at all, and once again, surprised we haven’t heard more on this (and once again, not really).

SAN JOSE 8 ANAHEIM 1 (Sharks lead series 3-0)

The Anaheim Ducks were already getting worked in this series. Last night, they got outright embarrassed, as the Sharks pumped them for 8 goals in a laugher that featured (wait for it...) Corey Perry late game goonery! 8 different players scored for the Sharks, while Rickard Rakell answered for Anaheim. The game was tied 1-1 after the 1st, but the Sharks blew it wide open with 4 in the 2nd. John Gibson was pulled in the 2nd, and replaced by Ryan Miller, who fared no better.
