2018 NHL Playoffs Round 1- Game 2 Open Thread Apr 14/18

Oh good, another classic example of the NHL not understanding what fans want in terms of scheduling...

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Colorado Avalanche at Nashville Predators Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

NEW JERSEY @ TAMPA BAY- 3:00 PM EDT/ 12:00 PDT (SNE,SNO) (Lightning lead series 1-0)

Tampa’s one of those deep teams that can get scoring from just about anyone in their lineup, so another game like the first contest in this series will be just fine with them. The Devils meanwhile are going to, and this is a bit of a shock, lean heavily on Taylor Hall. They also need to get better goaltending out of Keith Kinkaid, They hung in for a while with the Eastern Conference’s top team, but can they knot the series up heading back to Jersey?

COLORADO @ NASHVILLE- 3:00 EDT/ 12:00 PDT (SNP,SNW) (Predators lead series 1-0)

The Avs came out and tried to catch Nashville looking ahead a bit, and it almost worked if not for Filip Forsberg. The one thing they needed to prove is that they weren’t going to just be happy to have been “nominated”, so to speak, that they earned a playoff spot and if Nashville’s gonna go on another run, it’s gotta go through them.

TORONTO @ BOSTON- 8:00 EDT/ 5:00 PDT (CBC) (Bruins lead series 1-0)

The Leafs have lost Nazem Kadri for 3 games, and it’s because they let the Bruins take them off their game. Boston’s gonna play that style no matter what, and when you react, that’s when they kill ya. Get back to what has worked for the Leafs, who have done a damn good job against the Bruins the last couple years, and this one heads back to Toronto tied up. If Philly can do it, so can the Leafs.

SAN JOSE @ ANAHEIM- 10:30 EDT/ 7:30 PDT (SN360) (Sharks lead series 1-0)

The Sharks know this Anaheim team well, and their game plan in the opener worked to perfection. The Ducks are going to need to stay out of the box, something that really isn’t in their DNA, and tighten up defensively. They also need to get more time and space for guys like Rickard Rakell, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf if they’re going to avoid going down 2-0 heading to the Bay Area for Game 3.
