It wasn’t a controversy on the scale of Brock Boeser sitting in the press box for the first two games of the season, but it did leave a few people scratching their heads that Darren Archibald, who was Travis Green’s rock in Utica, didn’t get offered an NHL contract after an impressive preseason. Given the chatter about the Canucks lack of response to incidents like guys taking runs at Boeser, and with Sam Gagner going down again, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that they finally gave Archibald what he had earned back in September.
Archibald scored 23 goals and added 24 assists last season for the Comets and has put up 7-9-16 in 25 games so far this season. He’s played a total of 16 games for the Canucks, with 1 goal and 2 assists, but the key thing to remember about Archibald is a guy that is like what they lost when Derek Dorsett was forced to retire, but with far more upside. He can skate, he can hit, he can check, and his work ethic is relentless. And as he showed last year, he can put the puck in the net. While it’s hard to say he’ll be up for good (barring a Canucks fire sale at the deadline, and oh, lord would that be awesome), this is a guy who’s been working his ass off for this moment. He’s not likely to be in the lineup until Friday night’s game against Carolina, so you’ll have to wait til then, but it will be one you won’t wanna miss.
