Just as Trade Deadline Day is starting to get interesting, Canucks GM Jim Benning gave irrefutable evidence he came to the office today, by making a trade. And no, it wasn’t Thomas Vanek. The Canucks have sent Philip Holm to the Vegas Golden Knights for LW Brendan Leipsic. Holm played his first game of the season against Vegas Friday, and was one of the better players in a pretty bad loss.
Leipsic played under Travis Green in Portland, and had a couple very impressive offensive seasons. He was drafted by the Predators, and managed to produce, in addition to being very adept at drawing penalties. Some are making an immediate comparison to Alex Burrows, which would be a pretty good thing if they could get half of what Burr meant to this team during his time here.
Leipsic’s stats are here, and while we await his first appearance in the lineup, it does make the situation on the Canucks blue line just a little more dire as the depth simply isn’t there.
