GAME DAY & GAME THREAD: Canucks @ Arizona

New, comments

It’s Trade Deadline Eve, but Canucks fans should just go to bed, since Santa Jim is giving you nothing but coal

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at Arizona Coyotes Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Remember the last deadline? Where Jim Benning actually went out and moved a veteran guy for what should be a pretty solid prospect? If you’re hoping we’ll see a repeat of that this year, you’re going to be disappointed. Many are already saying Thomas Vanek will be the only Canuck moved, since the re-signing of Eric Gudbranson chained him to us for another three seasons.

Speaking of Guddy, he was AWFUL the other night against Vegas, so it makes sense that he’s still in the lineup and Philip Holm, who was not awful, is the one who comes out for Ben Hutton to get back into the lineup. Also not in the lineup is the aforementioned Vanek, signifying that he will indeed be dealt tomorrow.

The Arizona Coyotes are one of the hotter teams in the NHL right now, 6-3-1 in their last 10, and they can move to within 5 of the Canucks with a win tonight. Hard to believe it’s almost March and these teams haven’t played each other yet. They’ll meet another three times before the end of the season, and those games could have a serious impact on getting a draft lottery win. See, meaningful hockey for the Canucks in March is real!

GAME DAY BATTLE HYMN

One of my favorite Arizona bands (yes, there’s a few of them) is Flotsam & Jetsam. While most know them for being the band that gave Metallica Jason Newsted, they put out some really killer albums back in the day, and this song from a couple years ago is a nice return to form.
