And all through the rink, there’s no hockey tonight so pour me a drink!

It’s been one hell of a year...

For the Canucks, and Nucks Misconduct one thing has been a constant: change. We witnessed the end of the Sedin Era, and watched the two greatest ambassadors for the game this team has ever seen go out in style. We saw them draft a huge part of the core in the future, as well as some projects that could pan out well as the rebuild continues. Quinn Hughes is going to be a defenceman the likes of that Canucks fans have never seen. Believe that.

We also, as one era came to a close, witnessed the birth of a new one as the Elias Pettersson Era has begun. He has come to us from the stars to save this wretched franchise from a half-century of misery. I believe this more than anything. Petey, Cap’n Bo, The Flow, Quinn, and Demko are the beginning of what will be what we have all asked for: A Cup before we die.

Around here, there’s been a lot of changes. Some you’ve noticed, others maybe not so much. We’ve had a bit of turn around with our writing staff (and we’re always on the lookout for more, so do get in touch if you’d like to give it a go. We also saw Yankee Canuck sail off into the Hawaiian sunset. He and Zandberg built something amazing here, and our motivation is to carry on with something they’ll be proud of, but also reflects the changes in some of the faces here at NM.

The one thing that hasn’t changed is you. We’re always thrilled to hear from you in game threads, previews, deep dives and news updates. This place is a community, and from the frequent posters to the lurkers, you all make it what it is. We appreciate what you bring to the mix.

We’ve asked the writers to pass along any messages to you that they have, and we’ll add them as they roll in (no deadline tonight, it is Christmas Eve after all...)

TENGERESZ: As we take our midwinter break, I am reminded that many cultures have some kind of festival to celebrate surviving the darkest time of the year. For the Romans (now Christians) it’s about rebirth of the Sun (Son) God; for the Jews it’s about redemption and the Festival of Lights; for others it’s about the cycle of the seasons turning through the long cold winter towards Spring.

Here we are near the darkest day of the year but we know that the sun will shine brighter things will get warmer and there’s always a chance for a good crop next year.

There’s got to be a Canucks Hockey metaphor in there somewhere.

So from all of us, to all of you: Whatever you’re celebrating, and whoever you’re celebrating it with, may it be filled with happiness, warmth, good food and lots of hockey! Thank you all so much for taking time to listen to us. We’re taking tomorrow off, but we’ll have game threads for Team Canada’s first game at the World Juniors, as well as the Spengler Cup (because why not?). Merry Christmas.
