Gamethread #38: Canucks vs Blues

Book it: Another five point night for Petey.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at St. Louis Blues Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

For the second time this month the Vancouver Canucks have a chance to absolutely CRUSH the woeful St. Louis Blues.

You may recall that the Canucks sat the Blues down by a score of 6-1 in St. Louis on December 9th, thanks in large part to another incredible five point performance from super rookie Elias Pettersson and a hat trick from sophomore sniper Brock Boeser. The Blues were booed off the ice that evening, a fate that they’ll likely not have to face this evening at Rogers Arena.

The Canucks are coming off a gutsy effort in a losing cause against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. The Canucks may have lost on the scoreboard to the NHL’s #1 team, but they earned a moral victory with the pushback that they showed following Lightning forward Dannick Martel’s blatant headshot on Canucks defenceman Troy Stecher. It’s difficult to imagine the Canucks generating as much enthusiasm for tonight’s contest, but you can bet that head coach Travis Green will have his team primed and aware of the trappings of putting in a soft effort tonight.

So… how do they line up? Here are tonight’s forward lines and defensive pairings according to DailyFaceoff.com.

Forwards:

Antoine Roussel - Bo Horvat - Loui Eriksson

Josh Leivo - Elias Pettersson - Brock Boeser

Nikolay Goldobin - Adam Gaudette - Jake Virtanen

Markus Granlund - Jay Beagle - Tyler Motte

Defence:

Alex Edler - Chris Tanev

Ben Hutton - Erik Gudbranson

Derrick Pouliot - Alex Biega

Jacob Markstrom gets the start in goal and Anders Nilsson will back him up. Let’s go, boys! Go, Canucks go!
