Gamethread #35: Canucks vs Oilers

Second night in a row of Canucks hockey.

NHL: Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

In the span of 24 hours the Canucks will go from playing a team that is imploding to playing a team that has found it’s groove. I remember making fun of the Oilers at the start of November when they were near the bottom of the league. And it people were wondering how that team, with McDavid and Leon D. could be so bad. The answer seems to be the coach and the goalie. Makes sense. Now the Oilers are in a wild card spot.

This will be a good test for the young Canucks. The Oilers are fast and tough. Bo is going to have to on his game tonight. Roussel and Beagle will have to step up with that “grit” they were signed for. I hope Guds comes back but it doesn’t look like it.

The game will really come down to the third and fourth lines tonight. That is why I chose my Motte for the pic. Guys like Tyler, Gads and Granlund can really make life easy for Petey. If the 4th line scores, the Oilers will have to adjust and Petey gets more room.

This is the first of many games against the Oilers. Let’s see how we do.
