CANUCKS NEWS: The Canucks are on the road and coming off a disappointing game in Calgary Saturday night will look to rebound against another team in the midst of rebuilding their identity, the Carolina Hurricanes. One of the interesting stories to watch tonight is the two outstanding rookies that will play: the Canucks Elias Pettersson and Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov. Here’s some reading to tide you over til game time (and don’t forget the game preview coming later today!):

The Province’s Patrick Johnson on how Nikolay Goldobin’s good start is keeping Travis Green happy, but will it last? Speaking of Pettersson, the hype is as out of this world as his actual play, but it’s a long season so maybe pump the brakes a bit... One thing this road trip will bring us is some lineup tweaks... You may want to tune in tomorrow as TSN has a pretty big guest lined up for the afternoon show...

AROUND THE LEAGUE: Your NHL 3 Stars for the first week of the season are out... Some pretty noteworthy injuries over the last couple days, as Roberto Luongo (2-4 weeks), James Van Riemsdyk (5-6 weeks) and Brandon Dubinsky (4-6 weeks) are all out of their respective lineups... The Anaheim Ducks continued their torrid start, winning their 3rd straight in a shootout win over Detroit last night. The Ducks were wearing their 3rd jerseys, the same design as they wore when they entered the league 25 years ago. The Ducks had 5 rookies in the lineup last night, making their start even more impressive... It’s early, but the Buffalo Sabres look like they might be ready to crawl out of the NHL’s basement. New captain Jack Eichel scored twice and the Sabres got 35 saves from Carter Hutton en route to a 4-2 win over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights. Buffalo’s now got a winning record for the first time since Jan 2013... Robin Lehner stopped 35 shots in a 4-0 New York Islanders win over the San Jose Sharks. The attendance at the Barclay Center for that one was a tad under 8800. Ouch...
