Season Review: How Are The Nucks Doing So Far?

New, comments

So far, so good.

NHL: Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks
Virt: tied for team scoring lead

It’s been a long hard fought season thus far. We didn’t expect to be #1 in the division at this point. And technically, we’re not - we’re tied with some other pretenders. Not the point.

The point is, this deep in the first week of the regular season, the Nucks are undefeated. Let that sink in. Like it did last year at this point. The other point is that we have probably the best PK in the league. I’m not making this up. 100% effective. The only way our PK gets better is if it scores on every SH chance.

Sure, some might say it’s really a bit early to be doing a season review, but they’re just jealous of our recent win. One of possibly several we can review with the smugness rarely seen outside of the Toronto sports media cabal.

And just to rub it in a little with last year’s sand hockey darlings, if the playoffs started yesterday, we’d be in and Vegas would be pining for an early pick. Almost an entire 14 divided by 20 something of nhl hockey and Vegas is still in the basement. Ha-ha! So far, it’s been a pointless exercise for them. We know that feeling.

On the team scoring racing track, it’s surprisingly close. And more surprising is that Loui is tied for the team lead in points! All because the ELG (Elias, Loui and Goldy) line are leading the team offensive. They’ve been so good, that we’re saving the Triple B’s for later.

Leiper, Virt, Motte, Beagle, Guds, Gumby, Suttzy and Granny share the second highest point totals on the team. That’s pretty good. At any time. Even if it is now.

On the goaltending front, Marky has been so close to lights-out that you need to squint. He’s won every game so far and is sporting a .943 SV% - that’s very sporting.

I don’t have time today to dive deep into the stats and dissect every period the New Era Nucks have played, but let’s just pretend I did and say the stats are trending way way up from where they were last month.

On the Faery front, there’s news Roussel is almost out of IR purgatory and is practising with the team - you’ll recall so far he’s been out of the line up the entire 2018-2019 season.

It’s been a long tough grind to battle this deep into the regular season. A dramatic finish couldn’t come too soon. And won’t. So don’t worry about it.

Merry Almost Halloween everyone!
