NHL: Vancouver Canucks at Arizona Coyotes Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

CANUCKS NEWS: In a way, there’s a sense of relief that comes with this latest wave of injuries. It’s taxing on one’s spirit to have to talk so negatively about one’s favorite team all the time, so being able to cut them some slack is always appreciated. And while they shouldn’t be let completely off the hook (I mean, the Arizona Coyotes are a pretty bad hockey team), with the lineup they iced last night, and playing in a back to back, they held it together pretty well.

One thing that’s shocking is Derrick Pouliot’s play on this road swing. He’s been terrible and if not for the injuries to Alexander Edler and Christopher Tanev, he’d be in the press box. That being said, this game came down to defensive letdowns, and hanging the goalie out to dry. Familiar refrain, no?

And it’s not like we have better options there. Michael Del Zotto was not impressive, especially on the Alex Goligosky goal. Giving even a guy like Goligosky that much time and space can bite you on the ass. Here’s your morning reading...

Despite all the injuries and some miscues, the Canucks didn’t play too badly and the Coyotes weren’t great themselves... Yes, Pouliot’s been bad, but he didn’t shy away from owning it... One bright spot? Darren Archibald making the most of his call up last night. The Comets all time leading scorer continues to impress with hard work... Our old pal The Stanchion is on Athletties duty and it’s pretty good (check out the post-Vegas one too)... PITB’s wrapup is good stuff as always... The news on Alex Edler is potentially not good and that’s not good for the Canucks...

AROUND THE NHL: Oh, lord... Mike Smith is the gift that keeps on giving. Smith and the Flames got embarrassed at home by the Penguins in a 9-1 laugh fest...

Jason Pominville scored twice and Kyle Okposo got the GWG on the PP with 1:01 remaining as the Buffalo Sabres beat Montreal 4-3. Max Domi had two for the Habs...

A Kyle Turris OT goal moved Nashville to 8-2 on the season in a 4-3 win over New Jersey...

Pittsburgh wasn’t the only team lighting it up last night as Columbus put up a 7-4 win over St Louis...

Minnesota won their 4th in a row as they took down the Los Angeles Kings 4-1. The Kings are not looking good right now...

The Rangers struggles continue as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Chicago. Patrick Kane with his 9th, Alex DeBrincat with his 8th and Jonathan Toews with his 6th led the way for the Blackhawks

The Anaheim Ducks have dropped 4 straight after a hot start, this time a 5-2 loss to the Stars in Dallas...

And the Washington Capitals were unable to sweep their Western Canadian road trip, pulling a no-show in Edmonton last night as the Oilers won 4-1...
