Canucks Recap: VAN - 1 WPG - 4

With Byfuglien returning and the depth of Winnipeg, the Canucks were man-handled.

Conclusion
Okay before anyone gets worried, it wasn’t THAT bad.

The Winnipeg Jets have defeated the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 4-1. The Jets only had 4 more hits than us, but for some reason I feel we got demolished on board play, and puck battles. Brock Boeser looked a little slow in my eyes, along with Virtanen, who looked a little lost defensively.

The return of Byfuglien resulted in a goal and two assists in his return.

One more note is Blake Wheeler became the second player to score 500 points for the Jets/Atlanta Thrashers tonight. Los Angeles Kings forward Ilya Kovalchuk had 615 points from 2001-10.

Patrik Laine also scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves for the Jets,

Bo Horvat scored for Vancouver tonight, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Anders Nilsson made 28 saves.

But overall, I feel the score doesn’t show how close the game really was. Lets get in to it!

1st Period

It started off well for the Nucks. A good defensive takeaway and scoring chance from Sven Baertschi started us off right. But the powerhouse Jets took over eventually.

With 1:04 left in the 1st period, Patrik Laine struck on the PP. Assisting on the goal was Blake Wheeler and Dustin Byfuglien.

This pretty much shows how hard Nilsson tried to keep us in the game.

2nd Period

Bo Horvat tied it up with 7:06 left in the 2nd. The apple goes to Derrick Pouliot.

Bo showed us why he is the best player on the team tonight.

We definitely played better in the 2nd period.

3rd Period

Byfuglien, who missed the past two games with an upper-body injury, assisted on Bryan Little’s power-play goal from the slot at 4:58 of the third period that gave the Jets a 2-1 lead.

Andrew Copp made it 3-1, scoring his first of the season at 12:46, and Byfuglien scored his first at 14:43 on a pass from Little to make it 4-1.

Final Take

The Canucks did not play like they did in Pittsburgh. But this team is much better than last year’s. Tim Schaller has shown his worthy pickup when we doubted the offseason pickup. Playing on the 4th line is perfect for Schaller.

Alex Edler surprisingly took a handful of penalties tonight and didn’t block more than 5 shots which sucks. All I have to say to you fans is R-E-L-A-X.

Next Game: vs Boston
